Rain Sensing Wiper Mod
« on: December 21, 2008, 11:05:41 AM »
OK, so I installed the sensor portion of my RainTracker system above the rear view mirror and routed the sensor cable around the windshield surround.

HOWEVER, I am at a point where I need some expert forum advice:

The RainTracker calls for you to tap the Lt-green, Grey and Pink wires coming from the wiper control wiring harness.  Here is my question - it would probably be easier to tap these harnesses in the passenger side footwell, and I could hide the control module there as well.  I took apart the lower dash on the driver's side to see if I could get to the wiper harness there - and it looks like a major PIA!

Do you guys think tapping in the passenger footwell is a good idea, and if so, which is the right harness to find these wires?  I am NOT a wiring superstar and have some trouble reading wiring diagrams, and definitely don't have the service manuals for the Sky, so any help would be appreciated. I am also looking for a good place to install the ground wire.  I will install the included on/off round rocker switch on the left side of the lower dash on the drivers side, so I will need to extend my wires to the controller in the passenger footwell - any issues there?  Would it be easier to route those extensions through the windshield surround or over the tranny hump?

Thanks!

I'm looking into the service DVD for wiring specs.  The mirror wiring goes to the harness in the passenger foot well.    Post a pic of where it is installed.

Here is the rain sensor installed - I ran the sensor wire through the wire protector for the mirror harness to make it look really clean.  I am actually looking for the light green, pink and grey wires from the wiper harness in the passenger footwell.  I have already run the sensor wire  to that location...

Hmmmm...  The directions I show from the Rain Tracker site are specific to the pontiac solstice 06 -07 and saturn sky 07 models.  They show:

+12V - PNK
Ground - chassis
FAST - LT-GRN (Wiper speed)
RATE - GRY

Given what you found on the L-GN wire - guess I should try to install from the drivers side rather than the passenger well?

My mistake, now that I see what colors they are wanting I see that
PNK is power on the schematic (see top left)

L-GN is High switch, match the colors that they have to the schematic

I am sorry I am so bad at the schematics!  But does this mean that I should try to tap things in the footwell or the driver's side harness?  And if in the footwell - which bundle of wires?  Thanks so much for your time too!!!

The Body Control Module (BCM) is under the center console arm rest, you won't find the wires in the passenger foot well.  You may be able to find the wires beneath the steering column.

Joe, I hate to call you out on your own forum, but are you SURE the BCM is under the arm rest?  I'm almost certain that the Airbag module was located there in my '06.  As far as I know, the BCM is integral to the fuse and relay center behind the panel in the passenger footwell against the firewall...

Edit:  Just realized we're talking about a SKY.  Are they really that different?  I figured a Kappa is a Kappa other than cosmetics and maybe some suspension specs.

Thanks 2KW4U, you are correct, I thought the BCM was the connection to the box under the center console cup holders.

Soooooo... Does that mean I should try to wire in under the passenger footwell and not the driver side wiper harness? :)

jonymac,

Judging from that schematic, it looks like the light green wire you're looking for goes straight from the control stalk to the underhood fuse block where the wiper motor relays are located.  You probably won't find that one at the BCM.  Please don't take offense to this, I'm not trying to insult you - maybe you should take the schematic to a professional and let them handle it.
