I am selling one or both of my cars,  I am a collector, these cars have not been altered mechanically

   First:  07 Solstice GXP Convertible

Black with black leather interior with red stitching,  6 CD player, Monsoon sound A/C, chrome wheels, red painted calipers with with lettering
of SOLSTICE and then clear coated, has Kappasphere custom luggage that fits the convertible.  Mechanically nothing added or changed.
This car had 2200 miles on it in December of 06, most of these miles was getting it home from Phoenix to Tulsa, it now has 4500 miles.
To say this car was garaged would be putting it lightly.  This car has never been washed or wet, only polished and polished and polished.

Sales price is $22,500.00 and rising.

Second: 09 Solstice GXP Coupe

Black with black leather interior with red stitching,  6 CD Player, Monsoon sound, A/C, chrome wheels, race peddles, etc.
If one of these is available in your area get one.  These cars are a collector's dream.

              Sales price is $41,498.00

Yes, saying your price will go up unless somebody buys fast may not be the most effective sales strategy, but best of luck.  Kind of like the dealer markup. . . .

As a collector the one thing I have learned is patience.   I am in no hurry.  Every time some one wrecks one of these cars carching.  The messing with the mechanical aspects of these cars is a lot of fun but it also reduces its value to most of the public.  Collectors are not after an  original car.   I again am not looking for a fast sell.  I only want to sell one of these, I will sell both but I would like to keep one of them long term.  I cannot thank of a car that had as few production models as the Solstice.  The Sky may stay in production and that will hurt short term value.   I want to sell one of these to someone that appreciates these cars as most of us do.  I believe with time these car's values could become historic just by the fact that there are so few of them.  Imagine, Porshe Boxter produces 50k per year and the body hardly ever changes.   I don't know for sure but there may only be 50k Solstice GXPs.

The Sky may stay in production and that will hurt short term value.

Sorry, but that just isn't going to happen .. the plant is shutting down for good in about 10 days .. no more Solstice, no more Sky, no more Opel, no more, no more - the very last Solstice will roll off the line sometime by the end of next week.

BTW ... Skys will be more limited in number than the Solstice since production was about 3:1 for the past 3 years.

Given the choice of "perfecting" my Redline, or having fun beating the snot out of it, well, bring on the snot rag !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ANYBODY that thinks that Kappas will truly appreciate in value is nuts. Fieros and Corvairs have not, so why should Kappas. Just use and enjoy them.

:agree::agree:

I have driven the crap out of my car, and will continue to do so. My car has rock chips, curb rash, worn tires, water spots, worn floor mats, it's been driven with snow on the ground and salt on the road, and it's got high mileage to boot. (And that's before I started racing. First A/X is on Saturday, with many more to come hopefully.)

Wouldn't trade all the memories I've had in this car for a spotless, low mileage Redline.

If you want to garage keep your car and never drive it, fine, it is your car after all, and different people buy cars for different reasons. Honestly, if I had the cash I'd probably buy another and try and keep in good shape.

Well, either that or I'd buy a Subie and hotrod the crap out of it.

Buy a coupe for under $31k, go for it.  I was told there were only 1152 total coupes.  I also was told the plant is not shutting down but is shut down.  I don't know who has the truth but I received a letter from someone at GM that Pontiac is dead.  The reason the Corvair is not a collector is because it was a Corvair and they made thousands and thousands of Corvairs over a lot of years.  The Solstice is a sports cars with juice and style, that is what makes a collector.  Try to call around the country and buy one of those coupes, they want a premium, I know I tried, they want 3 to 5 k over sticker.  They may be numerous on the east coast but not in the fly over states.

BTW, I owned a Corvair and no one in their right mind would collect them.  I own two Solstice GXPs and I know that people want these.  I was at a show Tuesday night, the coupe made the show.  People were ranting and raving about it.  That is what makes a collector, style and the Solstice and Skys have style.  Everyone that trashes a kappa increases the value of those left.  It is about style and numbers, these cars have both. I had the coupe and the covertible with for sale signs.   They were all over both cars.

Just an FYI .. and this you can take to the bank ----- the plant has been on shut down for the past 3-4 weeks, the plant is SHUTTING DOWN for good next week.

This info comes from multiple sources, not only from inside the plant but also from GM personnel.

I have a coupe #291, exactly like yours, except for I don't have the 6 CD changer w/ Monsoon.  I did not pay anywhere close to the 39.5 K that your asking & the price differences between the stereos would not make that big of difference in the actual prices of the coupe.  I wish you the best in your endeavor.

ps....we too have other classic cars besides our sols & we drive all of them (not at the same time but alternate)

I got lucky, I didn't pay any where near sticker.  I could sell at sticker and still make a good return.  I am proud of the coupe and the price I am asking shows it.  If anyone doesn't think this will be a collector go outside and look at your Solstice, how do you feel when you look at it, well you are not alone others feel the same way when they look at your car.  I am selling that feeling and that look.  Gee these are gorgeous cars and so different than anything out there.  The coupe is setting for now, if I sell the convertible the coupe will be a once in a while dinner ride.  I also like to go to some local car shows.  If I do not sell either car that is ok, I WILL NOT GIVE THEM AWAY.

Enjoying your own car is great. They can still be found and at well under list. So, who is stupid enough to pay $40K for one? Insulting to be sure.

Well, they are paying over sticker, just try to buy a coupe on the internet.  I remember when I bought the first GXP, people were paying over sticker for the 07.  There maybe a lot of people on this board that paid over sticker for their 07, I wouldn't be calling them stupid.   Less than 1200 coupes, they should go up in value.  If not, imagine what it looks like to have a mysterious convertible setting next to a mysterious coupe.

Stupid is pretty strong.  By the way snaponbob I take it that is a no from you about buying my coupe?

The beauty of the free market (while it lasts) is that for every willing seller, there's a willing buyer.  Or to paraphrase P.T. Barnum, there's a buyer born every minute.  Its just a matter of them finding each other.

Personally, I would LOVE to have a GXP Coupe.  But to drive real hard every day, not to put in a plastic bubble as a speculative investment.  And for nearly $40,000, as much as I love our Kappas, I could get a helluva a lot more performance for that kind of money in this market.  But that's just me.  So I'll take a pass.

Besides, you probably would not like what I would do to the car the second I got it home.  Many of those carefully preserved stock parts would be in the dumpster in a hot second.

Ben L of course if you bought the coupe it would be your option to do to it as you wish.  That said, I think a person buying this car for $40k would probably not want to do too much to it just because of value.  I think one will be able to reasonably drive this car and still see an increase in value.  Maybe not a daily driver but a recreactional car.  If I keep the coupe I will put the power upgrade on the coupe, the cat-back, the cold air induction, the back bone and a bar or two. I believe these changes would not hurt its value but I want a potential buyer to have those options.  The big difference in the coupe and convertible, besides its looks, is the much quieter cockpit.  You don't have to turn the radio up to an excess and one can have a conversation with someone without shouting.

If you look at my Signature SOLTUL, there are exceptions.  Depends on a bit of ingenuity and also a pinch of bargaining and a little bit of luck!  Well, you see it can be done because I and Carol did it.  I have the same signature on two forums, this great forum and the Big Board.  I am not proud, just a good negotiator. Yes, MSRP on my 2007 Aggressive GXP was $30,300 less $1,000 GMMC credit.  (Mastercard $1,000 credit got it to $29,300).

Well, let's see...  I still had some work to do because you see I had to wait on this Roadster.  Carol and I had flown both of our boys and their families to Florida for a vacation back in November of 2005.  Well, one of the stops at Disney was GM's World of Motion at Epcot Center.  Well, that is when I saw the Solstice for the first time because GM had sent some Engineers with an NA Pre-production Solstice to Epcot to promote the Roadster.  Well, the first look was all it took and I told my wife that I had to have it!

When we got back to Kansas City, I kept tabs on the vehicle and placed our order for the NA first and waited 4 months, then on April 28Th, the first day you could order the GXP, we switched our order to the 2007 Aggressive GXP.  Well, that order took 8 months to delivery on December 27Th, 2006 when I drove it home from Roberts-Albright Pontiac and the temperature was 31 degree's, and the top was down, and my wife following in our 2000 Bicentennial Lincoln Navigator.  She knew that I would be excited so she said that she would have to follow, in case I had an accident.

Back to topic, we had gotten the figure to $29,300, so we still had some work to do.  I played my cards very well, and after the sob story was completed the final deal was $28,180 or ($2,180 under MSRP).
The Deal was finally done.  Time to relax and have a coke.

This is my issue with car collectors, they are just like used car dealers.  They will try and take every extra dollar they can.  If you haven't looked at the market it is in shambles for cars new or used.  So when you bought a car for under sticker and then try to sell it for well over the sticker value you are just nuts.  These cars are great, my convertablie Sol is a daily driver and my dream car after the Exige (but dont have the money for it, being just out of college.)  I bought mine with 12k on it and being an 06 I paid 17k for it, that was back in December.  To want that much for the coupe is just ridiculous.  I understand you dont want to sell them, I know i am not going to sell mine at any point.  But to say wait till it gets licensed and the price goes up you are out of your mind.  What are you gonna list it for then 45k cause you put a little sheet metal on the rear and/or front.  Hell go to a dealer and see what they are actually selling them for.  Your best bet would be to sell it for Sticker atleast have some morals in life.  I would if you are really a car collector then actually keep it for a year or two and see if the price actually increases.  My bet is still NO.  I love my Sol but it doesnt compare to any classic cars from before my time.  Take both of your cars and drive them thats the best thing if not give them to someone who will actually enjoy them.  If not you are wasting a great car that you shouldn't have gotten in the first place.

I bought my Wicked Coupe GXP off the lot, (didn't order it) from Easton PA for $1500 under sticker the day GM announced they were filing bankruptcy and that the plant was canceling the 2010 builds and closing permenantly in July.

Hello Amo, nice to meet you. December you bought an 06 NA for 17k with 12k miles.  Well Amo, I think $40k for the Coupe is a better deal than $!7k for the NA.  I am not saying you were nuts but I did not buy either of these cars for transportation, I have daily drivers.  I do take the convertible to dinner and to car shows, I now take both to car shows.  My contention is you can't buy a coupe for sticker, at least not for long.  In fact my guess would be by the end of August you can't buy one from a dealer.   So after these dealers sell their coupes where can you get one.  Try calling 800 people that bought the coupes to begin with.  How many have been driven as a daily driver.  The more miles on each of those 800 coupes the more valuable the ones with little or no miles become.  Economics supply and demand, by bet is on there being some demand, we know there will be no supply.

I may be nuts trying to sell a coupe for $40k but I could sell it for $35k and still have a 20% return. not bad.  However, if I hold until the retail market is gone I figure someone out there wants to buy a car nobody else has, I might then get a 30% plus return.  If not I have a great car to drive to dinner.

I received my 07 GXP December 6th of 2006.  I bought it in Phoenix because they sold me the car in March of 06 with enough discounts that I only paid $27,500.  The dealers in my home town were so mad that I bought in Phoenix and bought for less than sticker that they would not let me drop ship the GXP to their dealership.

Not bad, I only paid $26,900 for 07 Sly GXP, in July of 07. As for the coupe, I was going to buy one, until I found out if you wanted to go topless, you had to leave the top at home & had to pay almost $1,200 for a fold up top. That was a deal breaker for me.

Good Luck

Mike

I agree Hammer Down about the top of the coupe.  I have found the canvas top for the coupe for around  $800, it should have been part of the car and not be an accessory.   You also need to buy the storage bag to put the hard top in to protect it, around $80.00.  The car was put together rather fast and some things just don't make sense.  It does turn heads though.  It also has a lot of blind spots in it.  You have to be careful until you find how to make up for those blind spots, it came easy for me, my wife mentioned having trouble with the blind spots.  In comparsion to the convertilbe it is quieter in the cockpit for conversation and music.

Amo, you said the following:   Take both of your cars and drive them thats the best thing if not give them to someone who will actually enjoy them.  If not you are wasting a great car that you shouldn't have gotten in the first place.

Why should I have not gotten them, isn't this America where we can do just what we want with our property as long as it is not hurting someone else.  I know some of the liberal teachings in college but you seem a little confussed on owning cars and why different people own the cars they do.  I spend a lot of time polishing my cars, it is a great way for me to relax.  I sometimes spend 2 to 4 hours polishing one of them.  By having such a car at home it makes it a lot easier to drive a Chevy Malibu as a company car.  I would go crazy just owning the Malibu, it's a great car but I enjoy working around the solstice.  Also, you and others believe $39.5 is too much for a coupe with 120 miles on it.  I will copy below two coupes I have found for sale on autotrader.com.  Notice the number of miles.
