Superchips Tune
« on: August 01, 2009, 12:03:47 AM »
Well, I had great intentions of getting the Westers tune but the only days I could get off work didnt work for them. As our all too short summer was marching on I decided to order online the Superchips Flaspaq which after conversion to $Can and delivery came in at $414. I am not planning on doing any further mods to be honest so at the price and the fact I can use it on my truck if I dont like the results on the Solstice, it seemed like a good option.

I have had it installed for 2 weeks now and done over 1000K. I must say I'm pretty impressed. It has given a noticable increase in performance and if anything the car seems smoother. Considerably more boost comes in much earlier in the rev range in both 1st and 2nd gear and it spools up with much more zest. The rev limit has been increased to 7000rpm and boost peaks at 165kPa (about 23PSI I think). Turning the ECM back to stock and driving it around is nice way of realising just what the tune really gives the car. It may not be the cutting edge in tuning for the Solstice, but for my needs at the moment, I'm highly impressed. I think back to 1988 when I spent 5500GBP (approx $11000Can) on a GTI Engineering conversion for my MK2 VW Golf GTi which gave it and extra 40BHP, relieved me of the car for almost a month and I thought at the time was reasonable value for money!!! It did come with a Zender body kit and very nice BBS spoked alloys but still....... it's amazing to think how much cheaper and easier we can now tune our cars.

Anyway, it's a great option for anyone looking to improve on the stock GXP and if you have another GM car or truck that can benefit from it then what do you have to lose?

PureX, I'm glad you like the superchips.  I went the Diablo route for my 300C, and for what is a 4 door "family sedan" it really pepped up the Hemi.  Unfortunately, for someone on this forum, who lives less than 90 minutes away from Westers, to go with another tune is well, blaspheme!!   :gaah:

There are guys all over this forum who would literally give their left nut to have their car strapped to Westers dyno, and have Lyndon tune their car.  The other 2 members here from Alberta (SlyNic and I) both took advantage of living close by.  OK, it was a 5 hour drive for me, but compared to the others on the forum, that's close!  I know that in the summer it's practically impossible to book any time with Westers.  SlyNic and I both made our appoints in February for early May, that's how we got in.  The beauty of booking an early spring time is Lyndon is still somewhat slow for business and has the time to tune your car all day if he has too.

One of the standard things the canned tunes like superchips do, is to allow you to raise the rev limiter, but for our cars, by the time you hit 5,500 RPM, your horsepower is starting to drop off, so there is no real point to run it up to 7,000 or even 6,500.  I too hit 165 Kpa of boost with the Westers tune, but I hit that at around 3,000 RPM and it holds steady at that boost until I run out of gear and have to shift.

I suggest you enjoy the new found power from your superchips, and ohhhh somewhere around next February, book a date for Westers.  You can always use your superchips on your truck, so no money wasted right  I guarantee you Lyndon will wring more HP and Trq out of your motor, and you'll never look back
