Have the HP Tuner now ... which license do I buy?
« on: August 09, 2009, 12:32:53 AM »
Well, I picked up my HP Tuner today. Been reading the manual, but I'm not sure what license to buy.

I plan on contacting Lyndon at Westers Monday or Tues and sending him my stock tune for the Race tune. SO do I buy the single vehicle license for 2 credits? Or the Year/Model license for 6 credits?

I only plan on using it on my 2008 GXP. But I was reading you need to get a VCM enhancement license if you change the stock tune and plan on writing it. Is that right?

What I want to do is be able to download/read my stock tune. Save it for later just in case and be able to upload/write Westers tune whenever necessary depending on the mods and updates from Lyndon. Will the 6 credit year/model license work for this?

Also, when uploading/writing Westers Race tune, do I use the "write calibrate" option? It seems they don't recommend "write entire vcm".

Thanks. Hope to get this working by mid-week

Buy the year/model license...then you can tune any of that car in that year.

If you buy this one, you can write to your car.

I use the write calibration option.

You have to read the entire VCM and send him that file...when he sends you the new one, open it up in HP Tuners and write calibration.

Unless you're going to be editing other peoples ecm's buy the single license, no need to waste 4 more credits on something you wont use.
There are no vcm enhancements for our ecm.

OK... got it thank. Curious now, what's a vcm enhancement? I thought that meant a "tune"?

Some of the v8 ecm's allow you to change the operating system to work with 2bar or 3bar map sensor or add a real time tuning feature, this costs an extra 1-2 credits.
