Well, I finally had a chance to install the BC Racing Coilovers today in my 2008 GXP. It took the better part of the day. After the first one, most of that time involved taking the various nuts of 1/4 turn at a time with an allen key hold the bolt
Any way, I decided I only wanted to drop it 1/2 inch all around. Too many speed bumps and pot holes around here. Even with that 1/2 inch drop however, I found I could get my floor jack under the front of the car anymore
This is what I did... I have something interesting at the end. So I welcome comments from those that did this before.
All shock can adjusted to stock height already. I compared each as I took them off and that what I found. Measuring from the top ring (with the double clamp) to the bottom ring (single clamp) I got this:
Rear = 67mm
Front = 98mm
I decided to adjust the height so that it was -12mm all around. So I ended up with is:
Rear = 55mm
Front = 86mm
After installing them I measured up the height and got this from floor to top of the wheel well on each:
Rear Left (driver) = 28 1/4 inches
Rear Right = 28 1/4 inches
Front Left = 28 1/2 inches
Front Right = 28 1/4 inches
Mind you, I was very careful to measure the rings (as above) before installation and after. From what I remember they were dead on.
Should I be concerned about this? I figure the 1/4 difference on the Front Left side could be anything from more/less air in that tire, linakage differences, or maybe compensation for the driver's weight? No idea.
What do you think?
Second, the road test. Took her out on some twisty roads. Took her down my favour curve and about 100km... I had "hopping" with the stock shocks and was hoping to get rid of this. Seems better.
I have the back set up with 20 click from soft side (bring it out to full soft then 20 clicks towards hard)
And for the front 10 clicks from soft to hard.
How do these settings differ from yours?
Is there anywhere on the web that I can read about adjusting these types of shocks. I'm not sure what I'm looking for and how to adjust it.
Side note: My back is killing me after this install and during the test drive it hurt even more
It's not a smooth ride, but them again...it's not any harder than stock.
I'm be interested in hearing some comments. Maybe some of you have gone through this and know what to you?
Thanks.
