Speaking of new stuff... whatever happened to the twin charged kappa project :)

Kenny:

Who was working on the twin turbo project?  That is something I would really be interested in.

twincharge != twin turbo

twincharge is a supercharger that does the low end and then disengages and the turbo takes over.

Dave @ DDM mentioned it at the spring 09 MD mod meet. I know nothing else

Dave

You can have my car for the entire winter[November - March] if you want to use it as the test case!!!!!
Only caveat is come spring, all of the hardware needs to remain in the car when I pick it up.

 :dancing:

You are correct.
I believe the 'unit' in question was 'lacking' in obvious portions of the turbo power curve but developed wicked numbers once spooled.
The idea has been around since the 1930's.

The way to deal with that is to use the supercharger to keep the turbo spinning until it is needed.

We have been working on a twincharged ecotec here actually, when we have more details, I will be sure to post up some pictures of it. We need to do some more tuning on it, but lets just say it is wicked fast

We have been talking to a couple people about the possibility of being the first twincharged kappa, and looks like there are 2 people seriously interested, we will keep you up to date..

That's ok, I'll be a happy customer.  I really have serious Supercharger envy.  I want the whine.
Having a whine then a woosh will be even cooler.

Elff:

Thanks for the video, I love the whine of the Supercharger but also like the turbocharger "wheel" whine when coupled with a hot tune and aftermarket intake. The sound is slick.  Perhaps one day we can compare the supercharger and turbocharger whine against each other on a video!!!!

I am a turbo, so you will have to compare with Critterman,
He has the stage 3.

Elff:

By "WE" I meant that we (meaning the Solstice community) should compare a supercharged Solstice with a turbocharged Solstice, not your car against mine.

A supercharged Solstice and a turbocharged Solstice  both make great sounds, I just thought it would be interesting to compare the two on one video.

I like how turbos sound once they've spun up. Gotta love the sound of a high-speed turbine.

But, I have to agree, superchargers sound the best.

Especially if that supercharger is a Kenne bell, installed on a '03 model Cobra.

Elff/Uranium:

Don't want to sound like a know it all but turbo's can really scream if the turbo is set up for high boost pressures and high RPM operation.  It is a lot like a supercharger whine except a much higher pitch.  You would not be able to hear it on a GXP if you did not have a tune that allows for 22+ pounds of boost and an aftermarket aircleaner which does not restrict noise. Both produce sounds that are fantastic but are uniquely different.

We will have to see if we can get Randy/Dave at DDM to set up a video demo?  Of course they are going to favor the supercharger sound, but I would just like to hear the two compared against each other on one video sound trac.  Come to think about it, DDM could pick up both sounds on the Atom since it has both methods of boosting on one engine!!!
