I'll pass as well.

From what I gathered, one of the big things he's worried about is what ethanol can do to an engine that isn't designed for it. Ethanol will dissolve the seal in older engines, since back then they didn't put ethanol in gasoline. Ever notice that there seem to be more old cars than ever burning oil? Case in point. Not much you can do about it either, you have to rebuild the engine or but gas with no ethanol added. Which isn't possible in some states...don't get me started. Thankfully Maryland isn't one of those states, yet.

Since we have newer cars, I'm told we don't have to worry about there being ethanol in our gasoline. The only thing that we have to be concerned with it is that gas/ethanol mixes make worse gas mileage than real, straight-up gasoline.

Another thing, looks like he's worried about the water that ethanol absorbs. It's true, ethanol will bond with water. However, I get the impression that this isn't a bad thing, as it's often used to purge water from a fuel system.

we are around 11% ethanol here in TX and it sucks. I use Seafoam every oil change and put it in the oil and gas and have been since i was 14 yrs old. i put 8 pz in the oil on new oil change to keep from getting sludge build  up and 16 oz in the gas next empty tank after oil change to clean injectors and upper end lube.

when i go to Tulsa i get 100% car gas at a couple ma/pa stations and car runs a ton better and gas mileage goes up.

I was going to ask why we have to buy gas with it when I don't know of anybody who is wants to.

Now, if pure ethanol was available at gas stations everywhere, well that's another matter entirely.

It's WORSE. A gallon of ethanol consumes MORE petroleum than it replaces to produce and distribute it. ONLY the farmer wins.

Ah, yes, it's not worth it as an alternative fuel in that sense, but it does have a higher octane rating than gasoline.

Why would people convert their race cars to run on alcohol if there wasn't some benefit to it? (Are their other benefits other than the octane rating?)

Gee its hard to believe that a fuel that will bond to water might be harder to detonate!

I happen to live in one of those corn producing states and I hate having to pay more for fuel that yields less miles per gal just so some farmer can think he is saving the environment even though he is using a diesel tractor to produce corn.  I can't wait for some idiot to develop the Prius tractor so that farmers can think that their hybrid tractor which now indirectly wastes more coal to power it is helping the world be greener.

Interesting article, the guys seems to have done his homework. I can not see where 2 oz's of oil meant to mix with gasoline could hurt anything, and the power they get out of those little marine motors that run on the stuff is ridiculous. I might be game, I will do like I always do put it in the truck first, big 6.0 LS-1 motor, Mikey will eat anything, it has Lyndon's magic touch as well so we shall see.

For ethanol to be used in high percentages (E85 and higher) the fuels systems must be different, engines built for the purpose, lubricants are different, ECM programs altered, and so on. And to produce those higher power levels, substantially greater quantities must be consumed due to ethanol's lower latent btu values. (Pretend that you now see a page full of "Ethanol sucks for basic transportation!")

Germany got it right be transitioning the cellulosic ethanol that is produced without mass quantities of petroleum to power the manufacturing facilities. That said, it can not be pipelined, so that runs up the cost and consumes oil.

Answer? LPG. North America is practically floating on it.

i am trying to find the oil local and going to try it. the amount is next to nothing on how much u use.
there are alot of boat places north of here 8 miles so going to try there.

i used to own a 2.3 turbo diesel in a lil dodge d-50 pick up w a camper and it ran great. 40+ mpg in town and 50+ on the road at all speeds. put 300,000 miles on it and it quit and i couldnt find parts so i sold it.
the guy took it to Mexico and havent seen it since. great lil pick up.

i literally read thru all 33 pages of posts last night and no one and i mean no one had anything bad to say
all had 1.5 to 2.5 mpg increase in town, better idling and starting and from the reading the 2 best oils being used were
Wal Mart Supertech TC W3
Amsoil HPI or HP Injector

i am headed to wal mart now to buy this and start using it in all 3 cars
05 Balt 2.2 LS Coupe Trifecta tuned and modified
05 Equinox 3.4 some mods, mostly K&N filter and Iridium plugs
06 HHR LS 2.2 highly modified- first HHR 2.2 Trifecta tuned and soon to be the first dyno tuned supercharged 2.2 LS Stealth Auto SS

when you read the post you will see it started in 2008, it also ref. DI as benefiting from this by cleaning the carbon off the valves. So we have been using 1oz per 5gal in our Mazdaspeed 3 from Jan 09 and the car intake valves and exhaust valves have been clean each time we pull the heads, Hard to say on the gas mileage we are always racing at the track with the car the 2 cyc has to be ash less so the wal-mart brand works well.... seal9

just bought the Supertech for 10.97 and with tax it was 11.87.
went to the kitchen area and found a Bradshaw clear plastic bottle where they have the mustard and ketchup bottles and it had a closeable top. $1.05 with tax
at 1 oz per 5 gallons and .0927 cents per oz this is .27 cents to treat a tank of gas maximum. if you get a 2 mpg increase it will pay for itself in a few tanks and the rest is gravy. he said it take 3 to 4 tanks to start seeing a MPG increase.

holds 12 oz and i filled and marked the sides for measuring putting 10oz in 3 bottles.

all set.

just figure you are raising the price of the gas 1.8 cents a gallon for this treatment.
i will still use SeaFoam in my oil at oil change but use this from now in my gas.

just used 10 oz on 3 cars and 1 oz for the lawn mower gas. and this bottle made it easy.
Glad i found this

Sure seems too good to be true, but I am getting curious. Has ANYBODY done some dynos to see what can be gleaned from that data? If the fuel mileage IS improving there MUST be other positive things happening.

I think it may help gas milage he talks about Gas getting dryer, what he is talking about is the lack of lubrication in Gas. In the 60's and 70's we had lead and other additives  for a lub now that's gone so you could see a mileage go up the key is the 2 cy oil has to be ash free or you will clog up your cat...seal9

I'll keep a close eye on this thread...

And btw, you can get bottles like those also at a Beauty Supply store and it'll already have the OZ/ML marked for you :)
And now that I think about it, maybe they do have them at walmart too, but in the Beauty Supply section.

for those of you that have access to Amzoil, they make there 100/1 2stroke oil in what they call a pillow pack. Its 1 1/2 oz. in a little squeeze packet. I have used this product for years in all my small 2stroke engines(chainsaw, weed wacker, leaf blower.etc). I mix one packet to a little over 1 gallon. 1 oz. of this oil mixed with 5 gallons of gas equates to 500 to one ratio. I have run one tank of gas through my pickup mixing the amzoil this way.Does seem to idle a little smoother
