OZ Ultraleggera wheels for sale (maybe)
« on: June 05, 2009, 05:59:03 PM »
I would be willing to sell my black OZ Ultraleggera 18X8 wheels (ONLY as a set) in order to purchase some 18X9's or 10's. They are in great shape and I can e-mail pictures if desired. Tire Rack is selling them for $289 plus shipping. I'll sell the set for $1000 INCLUDING shipping to the lower 48. PM or e-mail if interested.

exactly.

the 18x9's look nice but your sacrificing performance with them, these vehicles are manufactured to use 18x8 wheels, anything out of that scope is starting to create a negative effect on the vehicle, he entire vehicle is made as a whole and manufactured to spec.

i would keep the 18x8's if i were you......

So, putting 18 X 9 1/2 with 275/40's all the way around would be harmful how...
besides maybe making a Kappa look bowl-legged?

well when i worked for GM on the sales side i attended a special vehicle operations training weekend and we had a level 3 engineer for training talking specifically about the kappa platform, i asked directly about the tire size and wheel size for the vehicles the answer i got was this  "the vehicle is made as a combined unit, everything works together as a whole and is manufactured to spec, the wheels size is made specifically for the kappa application and altering it by going bigger or smaller wider or thinner will start to affect the longevity of your suspension components, as well as cause unwanted negative side effects on the performance side, the suspension will have various effects including a misbalance of the symmetry of their design, it will cause other suspension components to work ineffectively as you alter the dimension on the wheels, and that the car is designed to use an 18x8 wheel for best results." with that said he didn't seem to stress tire size that much but he very adamant about the wheel size specifically.

now with that said i still lowered my car, but i refuse to change the wheel size because i believe there is alot of truth to that statement.

So, if you've got an aftermarket suspension setup, tweaked for 18x9s...then that setup is engineered as a unit as well. He's talking about how you can't add parts willy-nilly. Re-engineering all the parts to work well together is fine.

SOB is probably the go to guy when it comes to suspension changes on the Kappa.  I would venture to guess that not much of his suspension is still at the stock specs.  If he has determined that a new wheel size is in order for him you can bet he has done his homework and made sure it will work for what he wants.

A good painter or Powdercoater could do that.

A good powder coater can do just about anything you may want. The labor can be an issue if you are not using the polished rims for the project. Chrome wheels would be expensive to strip, and the painted rims would have some extra costs involved as well. One VERY important issue is how hot the oven will be as the baking process could have an affect on the strength of the wheels. Tire Rack has some real good prices on a lot of their 18X8 wheels with many being lighter than stock and some of them look REAL nice.

Probably not worth the trouble when there are other good looking cheap wheels that are only 3lbs heavier out there.

These are nice looking...

Bob, how do the 18x9's look on the car?  the Tirerack lists them as a rear option, how has it worked on the front?  Only a pound heavier per shoe for the wheel, expect you've got an extra pound per tire as well...but adding 30mm of contact patch all the way around...

Anyone know what the stock chrome wheels weigh?

Stock rims are around 25-26 lbs if i'm not wrong, I don't know about chrome ones, we don't have such options on Opel GT.

They looked like THIS when they were still rubbing the inner sheet metal in the rear wheel wells.

This is what it took the clear in the rear. With 315 Hoosiers they rubbed so I needed 3/4" of spacers in the rear, so I added 1/2" in the front in order to keep the f & r track width similar.

This is what it looked like at Nats.

Look at the differences here, and KNOW where I am going with wheels/springs/alignment/height for 2010.

Who ? ME ?!?!?!?!?!?   I have been racing since 1981. I know my abilities. Ummmmmmmmmmm, not gonna happen. I saw Alex run, and he has me WAY covered. Alex, will not agree with this, but as long as the Evo 8s and 9s are in B/SP and with guys like Tom Berry and Craig Wilcox driving them, the Evos will dominate the class. With about 100 pounds more weight and a bit higher CG, their nearly ONE HUNDRED horsepower and torque advantage (at the wheels) coupled to 4WD will continue in their winning ways. In the meanwhile, I'll make a few car changes and work more on my driving (which really IS the big variable).
