Max boost numbers
« on: September 19, 2009, 08:27:55 PM »
After an extended conversation with CJ, (if I got this right) the turbos on the FWD LNFs are bigger (or at least different) than on the Kappas. This would explain part of why they put more power to the wheels. Also, during that conversation, I was told that the Chevy turbos can achieve higher boost than the Kappa's turbos and that it is almost impossible to consistently achieve and hold north of 26-27 psi.

Disclaimer: this is NOT an invitation to debate OTHER tune vendors, just simply sharing part of a conversation about Vince's product.

Intresting.
Would like to see some results with BTF's wheel upgrade and a higher psi tune. Maybe Latin Venom will be able to enlighten us in the near future.

Interesting. Just sharing what I was told. Frankly, "stock" turbo PEAK psi is one thing, HOLDING it is another. As un-modded turbos start getting Vince's tunes it seem that we can expect more hp and tq, and the psi will be whatever it is.

if we had control over unlimited boost what can this engine handle and remain reliable?

I know this engine is overbuilt but 1/3 more boost then stock is quite a bit of added stress, can this engine handle safe?

26PSI here on stock turbo and Vince's Trifecta tune. Hold on...I have a video of the dyno run for the 26PSI run. Let me encode it. I will post it in this thread.

As with all my videos...make sure to double click on the video to see it in HD.

The Ecotec engine series is nearly bulletproof. The "old" (non-DI style) can be built up to produce 4 figure power levels. The LNF is limited by a) restrictive exhaust ports above 7K rpm, b) fuel delivery, and c) potential valve float above 7500 rpm. The porting can be addressed, someday (if it already hasn't happened) there will be solutions to injector limits, and valve springs can be upgraded. Certainly, as bigger turbos produce more strain on the internals, rods and pistons will need attention. But for now, Kappa engines are holding up real well.

Engine is fine. It's burning up the turbo that is the problem. GM says 400-450 without modification.
