Pontiac Solstice Coupe soft top upgrade by JPM
« on: October 14, 2009, 06:08:45 PM »
At the SMMM6, JPM upgraded and took care of the pointed edges that tear through on the Targa Soft Top.  He used material from GAHH.com.  I had 3 samples mailed to me of convertible top material that we though matched or came close to the Wicked.  The closest on was ordered and Monday Joe and Alex went to work on it.  There are a sh i t load of rivets on the top.  20 that you can see and another 12-16 hidden.  I don't have any pics of the breakdown since I don't think anyone will tackle this on their own.

The results are astonishing.  The price is even better.  Call JPM for pricing.   You guys are awesome as usual...

WOW!  Who ARE those guys from JPM!  They are amazing!   Is one of the McGuyver?  Clark Kent and McGuyver work for JPM don't they...  And Betsy Ross does the sewing right?  Iconic creations... never seen anything like what they are capable of (and I haven't had anything done yet?  What am I  :idiot: or something?)

Looks good Joe.  Thanks for posting the pics.

As for stripes to match Rogue's car, I'm sure it's doable.  not sure how having a seam in the  middle of the top would affect it's water repelling characteristics with all the stitch holes in it.  I'm sure a good sealer like Raggtopp would help.

JPM,
If you can do this, can you make a whole new top for the convertables?

PS: Amazing job on this!

Thanks.  This was my first top job.  Going from this to the factory top would be like going from making mac and cheese to an 8 course meal.  Probably something I'm not going to tackle.  Plus I wouldn't have the equipment to do something as large as a full top.

Awww...come on guys...does everyone here have to be so serious? That comment was made "tongue in cheek."  Even with a good sealer that seam would probably leak like a sieve!

Well, not necessarily.  The material is two layers of fabric with an inner rubber lining.  It could be that the inner lining creates a seal once punctured.  Most tops have seams somewhere or another. I'm sure it's just a matter of technique.

JPM,

couldn't you just do a double layer?  First layer could be whatever color is cheapest and provides the seal and the second layer would be two tone with the stripes?  Double the material and work, but WAY COOL!

More than likely, that would be the way to go.

Looks great, I'll have to take with ROGUE   :poke:  about considering this option.

A soft top matching the car coloring would be awesome.

I'm sure Deedle is happy with it.

OK  I went to the site,  but they don't have any information  :idk: about the Targa top that was custom made  :idk:

There's no pricing for it either   :banghead:

Just to clarify, we don't sell the actual targa top.  It was a GM factory accessory and is no longer produced.  All we can do is recover the top with a different colored canvas.  The price to recover the top is $475. Hope that helps.
