Trifecta has unlocked the fuel tables on the 2.0 LNF
« on: November 07, 2009, 02:28:55 PM »
Hot off the press - Trifecta has unlocked the fuel tables on the 2.0 LNF.

Very impressive and great news.   :award:

http://www.cobaltss.net/forums/showthread.php?t=194771

At this time, does that make Trifecta the best option for the solstice/sky 2.0? Thoughts appreciated.

Over simplistic answer - more fuel plus more air = more power.

So far, the biggest mechanical limitation to serious power increases were the turbo (there are many options on the market) and fuel delivery (limited to the existing injectors and the volume/pressure being produced. Now, the folks with bigger turbos can overcome the fuel handicap. Even then, there are limitations as to a) what the injectors can deliver, b) what the ecm will tolerate, and c) the mechanical limits of the fuel injection (leaks, failures, etc.). The link to the Cobalt forum was very interesting. Most folks, including Vince, think that there is no significant benefit to an LNF with a stock turbo because it can't move enough air to need much more fuel.

I thought the ECM would always supply the amount of fuel needed based on the air load. The only limitation would be if the injectors or fuel pump can't deliver it.

I guess there is more to it.

Yup
I would assume that all new fuel tables as well as other additional info on other tables to operate the new fuel injectors and fuel pump as well as increased air flow from a larger turbo.

Im assuming "and may be wrong" that what the unlocked fuel tables allow the tuner to do is adjust the tables for the additional fuel flow for any aftermarket injectors or Fuel pumps "If there are any available at this point".  If there are not any aftermarket parts avialable then even at some point with a larger turbo the stock injectors and fuel pumps will max out and will need to be upgraded to produce more power.

The link by the OP sends you to a Cobalt forum and they go over (and over, and over !!!) all of this. The new tables increase fuel pressure to allow more fuel for larger turbos. From everything i have read, the LNF direct injectors are proprietary to this engine only, and so far there are no replacements.

Other manufacturers are using DI engines, so hopefully some solution will present itself in time.

FWIW the 2.0 LNF is pushing 500 whp with stock engine and fuel modifications to the tables so this mod is important beyond adding non-existant aftermarket FI injectors, etc. The main advantage seems to be the ability to tune larger turbo's to maximize their efficiency. As Vince noted, he needs to test to see if the stock turbo has gains. At the very least on the top end there may be potential from what was noted.... maybe more, maybe less overall too.  Let's see.

I don't get something. You guys are talking about upgrading injectors, I saw LNF engine pushed above 500whp on cobalt, their upgrades being turbo and all it's dependencies, ported head with valve springs to allow 8000rpm and modifier to our stock fuel pump. That's it. Being there and doing that on balts why we need better injectors, we don't have same ones as those from balt?

Guys, the new change is only for the fuel rail, the fuel tables were unlocked a long time ago.  This will only benefit those with larger turbos.  Us stock guys won't benefit.

I'm planning on a bigger turbo, most likely from Dejon since he is a Trifecta dealer. :)

One of the many great things about Vince at Trifecta is that he is one of the best programers around! (Microsoft background) Not many other tuners can say that! Knowing that...you will see Vince using the words maybe, possible and could be when asked questions. He knows that when you uncover something and have not tested it with all the other parts of the puzzle...all sorts of new things can happen to our engines...stock or otherwise.
