Werks Front Brace...what do you guys think?
« on: July 23, 2009, 02:39:39 PM »
What do you guys think about the new werks front frame brace?  Does anyone know how much benefit it provides?  If you were going to get the Probeam, the front frame brace, and the backbone, what order would you get them in for maximum benefit?  I know the consensus seems to be that probeam before backbone is a good route, but is the front brace as effective as the probeam is since it looks to be correcting a similar thing?  If so, would it be best to go probeam first, then front brace, then backbone?  Front brace first, then probeam, then backbone?  What do you think?  Thanks!

In reading the write up it sounds like it mounts to the frame.   DDM has a brace that mounts to the strut towers.  I had one on my car for a while but had to take it off as my supercharger was hitting it under very hard trottle applications.  I believe they are in the process of modifying it to correct that problem.  It only seems to effect the supercharged cars :)

Unfortunately, Dave says it is not ready for the LNFs either.  :banghead: :cryin: The one that Werks is selling DOES mount to the frame rails at the front of the engine. Might help, but I don't know. One this IS for sure, if there is any concern about SCCA Solo legality, the DDM WILL be, and the Werks will NOT be. Already confirmed with SCCA Solo Tech office in Topeka.

i have seen pictures of the mounting points and i am not sure how much flex it prevents. Not sure what structured test you could do to measure it. IMHO , you would have better effect if it bolted to the top of the shock/spring mount. Not sure what kind of flex occurs at the mounting sites on the frame that it could reduce. That part of the frame is what, at least 6-8 inches lower than the upper shock bolts? if not more....i don't know what i am talking about as i am no engineer..... But it looks good.....I just need a few testimonials before i make the jump.....the ddm product may work better???????......but i don't want to remove my engine cover and all that to install it. I detailed my cover so it isn't as Sh1tty looking as stock.....still is an ugly upside down cat litter box though...

Ah, OK.  I guess he's probably waiting for enough orders to come in before making more.  Still curious about how it improves things though.

I had one some time ago that was made by a different vendor. I did not see any improvement and the vendor discontinued it. It was mounted the same and some people broke the Air-conditioning hose during the install ...seal9

I'd be more interested in one that tied the shock towers together, and even more if it triangulated to the firewall on the rear of the engine bay, but that's probably not in the cards.

Very little clearance between the hood and the engine, that is why my tower brace is back at the shop for re-design

Back to the first post question, which first, the backbone especially on and NA. You will see the most benefit from it hands down, the Pro-Beam helps on an NA, but it helps more on cars with more power as it plants the back end to help get the power to the ground, not as much of an issue on an NA. The front bar, not sure it will help much or not, the DDM one will but it's UG-LEE, sorry Dr. Love

Thanks Lil Goat.  I'm running a GXP with the GMPP tune and a CAI, so it sounds like my best bet is Pro-Beam and Backbone, and not to worry about the front brace for now.  Still curious if anyone that got one has seen a real benefit though.  Thanks for all the input guys!
