Skid pad improvement?
« on: November 09, 2009, 09:25:17 PM »
Anyone care to make a guesstimate as to what kind of skid pad improvement we get from our suspension mods?  If I remember correctly our stock car pulls a .85g/86g.  Do you think these improvements put us over .9g?  What would just a set of stickier tires be worth?

I doubt that suspension mods make too much difference on a smooth constant-radius circle like a skidpad.  Better tires will have far more effect.

Better tires will help. Better (more negative camber) alignment will help. Both would help more, but it would not be additive. Only the VERY finest high performance cars can generate close to 1G on a steady 200 foot skid pad, and even then they are on the stickiest street tires (Michelin Pilots and other gooey tires like that) and have far better weight distribution than a Kappa has.

FWIW, once a car is returning skid pad numbers north of .8-.85, one rapidly gets into diminishing returns in a hurry. A Lotus Exige weighs about 2000 pounds and generates about .96-.98 G. And THAT is a race engineered mid engined car that scales ONE HALF TON less than a GXP/RL.

Appreciate all the input.  Perhaps a diet and more gym time will be the next performance mod!  :D

Rule of Thumb for weight to HP.

A 10 pound loss will equal about 1 HP so if you loose 100 pounds you will gain about 10 HP.

Don't laugh, but believe me, I can stand to loose 100 pounds.

Frank,

I am looking to "GAIN" 2.5 HP before my next marathon in January.  I have taken a too long hiatus from running and now as a result, my car is slower!  Going to start slow and do a half marathon in January, but really looking forward to the 2.5 HP increase!

Hmmm, there was some mention on another thread that polishing the chrome tips is good for 2 HP.... that would put me up 4.5 HP....  I wonder what else I can do to gain some power

PS- anybody wanna run?
