Wester's Tune
« on: December 27, 2008, 05:43:13 PM »
Programmer looked at Chuckdoc's GM Stage II Tune.  I have an updated tune in hand now to upload as soon as Chuck returns from vacation.

For those other tuners that use HPTuners only, you're missing the big picture!!!

Quote from: Programmer
After doing a simple compare, HPT shows about 18 differences between 'stock' and this custom program. That's where HPT fails sadly...

I'm pouring through this in hex...there's a few changes that HPT doesn't show.

In reality, comparing code changes to code changes--there's several hundred modifications to the program. I haven't had time to spend a lot of 'comparison time' as yet, but changes are pretty significant.

Already emailed him...I am ready to throw a new tune in to test.  Any idea what they changed?

I have no idea.  Joe and I looked at it and it was lots of tables and numbers.  We looked, laughed and sent it off.

If Spiky doesn't have the sensors, the new tune won't work for him

Exactly, which is why I emailed him to try and get his hands on them for me.  He is trying.  I will keep you all posted.

If you planning on getting the sensors stateside it looks like the only way is to buy the kit. A few of us have tried to procure them in Germany and Italy. I know for a fact that the Bosch distributor in Italy a) does not have any at this time, and b) is prohibited from shipping overseas. Next, the Germany connection would be slow, expensive, and time consuming assuming they can be procured and shipped. Besides the kit having the sensors, there are the needed connectors and a WARRANTY. The kits are available stateside for $650 list retail, but there are plenty of places to pick them up for $550. If you are an SCCA member I can steer you to kits for $500.50 plus shipping.

Steve, the best bet is to get the kit, I did find a place to get 1 set overseas without having to pay the 19% sales tax, if we can actually get them and they are not out of stock or back ordered. They are going to Lyndon, with shipping and all about $300. Not a huge savings over just buying the complete kit. I am going to order a kit after the new year. It seems that GM has bought up most of the sensors that were out there. It is not all that common a part.

Hmmmm good point lil goat.  I'll see if Lyndon can get it for me first, then I'll go back to getting the kit myself if it is worth it.  My current tune that I am testing is supposedly "faster" than the GM Stage II.  I will tell you, it is super aggressive and super fast.

I am faster than the GMPP tune I am sure, I had more HP with the original race tune, that was about 20 tunes ago. I like the tune I have now, it has a ton of low end, I don't know how aggressive it is, same one Joe has, I can come off a stop take it to 6000 rpm and sit and spin the tires forever, it doesn't hook up until I back off or shift. I hope Lyndon can find some, I found them for him if that tells you anything.

Chuck, my laptop crashed today and I can't load any tunes :(, it won't even turn on.  The power led comes on for a about 4 seconds and then shuts off and restarts, never any display either so I can't see what it's doing.  I had to bring an old slow desktop out of the laundry room (wife's embroidery machine pc) and do updates galore since it hadn't been on the web yet.

That is awful Joe.  I am so sorry.  I hope it is fixable.  Are the tunes recoverable or are they stored on HPtuners itself?

I've still got copies of the tunes you gave me from when I was in town.  Obviously, I dont have any updated ones since then, but I do have a lot including everyones stock tunes.  Let me know and I'll send you a disk with them all.  If you need something more immediate, I'll e-mail it to you...

Believe me, I'm well aware that Lyndon has sensors coming from Europe.  I was trying to give lil goat a chance to clarify his statement about how he found the sensors for Lyndon.

I'll get a USB hard drive enclosure and see if I can get the data.  I don't suspect the drive but the actual computer laptop itself.

I am not going to tell, I put him in touch with someone who found them, it wasn't me.
