Dangerous Tires
« on: December 03, 2009, 07:56:53 PM »
Important information that you may not be aware of about
tires.  There is a 30 sec commercial at first and then the video.  The
video is well worth watching.  Please watch until the end, because
some of the most important information you need to hear and see is
past the middle of the segment.  It could save your life, or that of
someone you love. This goes true for car, truck and RV tires

When the page opens, wait for the video to start. It may take a minute or two.

I checked my tires last night after posting this article.  My 4 month old tires were made in the 27th and 33rd week of 07 - two years old.   I will wear them out before they hit the 6 year mark :)

I don't like the way this article was put together.
It's presented more as Infotainment (entertainment) then an actual news story.

there was report out long ago to check tire dates even if you are buying new ones.  Most of this issue is improved but i still check new tire dates( you never know).   I have went with the 5 year replace in anything that gets up to speed. Uv kills fast here. You can watch your wippers disintegrate in a year.

Thanks Critterman for posting this topic.  To my knowledge it has not as yet been posted on this forum.  This was posted on my old Solstice GXP Owners Forum by DickW back on 12-14-2008 so this knowledge has been around, but enforcement has been lax and sometimes nonexistent in the Tire business.  This 9 and 1/2 minute video can save your life.  After the thread was posted by DickW I checked mine.  We took delivery of "Miss Red Eagle" on 12-27-2006.  Our tires were coded 4406 which meant that our tires were produced the 44th week of 2006 so our tires were 6 weeks old when we rolled out of the Dealers lot on December 27th, 2006.

As stated in the video tires have a shelf life and if over 6 years old the tires should not be sold to customers however some merchandisers pay no attention to the age and sell them anyway.  The problem gets even more serious as we now know that the U.S. industry in the past has fought proposals to make Tire distributors not sale tires that have passed the required time limit.  Sad indeed all the deaths caused by tires that were sold after six years and failed causing deaths.  Be sure to check the coded manufacturer date coded on the tire prior to purchase!

Bringing this thread back that Critterman posted back on 12/30/2009.  Several threads on new replacement tires have recently been posted on the forum.  Please take the time prior to purchase to view the very first post in this thread!!!!!!!

It could save your life!!!  I mean it, just take the time... and view the ABC News story!!  It is 9:42 minutes in length, but very important if you have begun the search for tires or getting ready to close a deal for new tires.

I believe this was posted on the Solstice Forum, and I know it was posted back on the old Solstice GXP Owners Forum.  Really, please view the video and you will know why you have a question to ask the Salesperson prior to closing on the sale.

I will not tell you the question to ask?  Just view the video.  :2c:

Like Dr. Jones mentioned, it over states the importance of buying used, dried out tires that have been sitting in the sun. I'm sure you can still do it, but finding your perfect tire glowing on rack in front a of gas station today is not likely. Tires will start to to decline in performance the first couple month of us. The this report is like a catch 22 where if it's discredited, the discreditor is wrong regardless as the tire is one of the most important safety aspects of a vehicle.

Norm - who used to burn through 2-3 sets per year for most of last decade.

 :agree:

Its so important, we wont take the time to just type a few sentences to show you how to read the date of manufacture of the tire, instead watch the 10 min. video.

Its like the news teasers ..URGENT BREAKING NEWS THAT WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE. DONT TAKE ANOTHER BREATH TILL YOU SEE THIS REPORT... watch the 11pm news on friday. (of course its 8pm on monday, hope you can hold your breath a long time).

From the fact that Norm sky replied to this post on
August 8, 2010
and then DavHamm responds on
August 17, 2016

That's a gap of 6 years and 9 days between posts on this thread
