Chime volume adjustable
« on: December 08, 2009, 09:27:04 PM »
File this under practically useless, but I just found out that the headlight on/key ignition, etc chime volume is adjustable through the stock head unit (no idea how to do it if you already went aftermarket).  With the key on and the radio off, press and hold button 6 (the preset button all the way to the right) for a second or so.  The radio will display "loud" or "normal" and sound the chime at the noted volume each time you change it.  It doesn't seem to affect the turn signal "click" volume, and I think the default setting is "normal."

This may not apply to some '09 models as this "feature" apparently wasn't carried over when GM switched suppliers for radios.

Models: 2006-2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

2006-2009 Chevrolet HHR

2008 Chevrolet Malibu (New body style)

2006-2009 Pontiac Solstice

2007-2009 Saturn Aura

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
A customer might comment that the audible chimes (headlight, door, key) are too loud and they wish to have the chime volume lowered. Currently there is no procedure in SI-2000 to adjust the volume of the Chime.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Chime Level Adjustment:

The radio is used to adjust the vehicle's chime level. To change the volume level of the chime, press and hold push-button 6 with the ignition on and the radio power off. The volume level will change from the normal level to loud, and LOUD will appear on the radio display. To change back to the default or normal setting, press and hold push-button 6 again. The volume level will change from the loud level to normal, and NORMAL will appear on the radio display.

Note: Each time the chime volume is changed, three chimes will sound to indicate the new volume selected.

Well it works in the 06 model, unfortunately it only goes from annoying to loud and annoying.

Wonder what happens if you hold button 1 down, or 2, or 3, or 4, or 5, or any combination?

Who wants to be the first to try?

This process of adjusting the chime volume didn't work on my 09 Sky.   Unfortunitly I don't think it would have helped anyway.  I have an amplifer that powers all speakers and I assume the volume is set to normal now and would only adjust to a louder version of annnoyance.    And I mean the engine key, seat belt, blinker chime is loud...

Does anyone have a possible solution for aftermarket amplifed systems?  How to disable this or install a smaller non-ampilfed speaker to divert these chimes to?

I have the USB radio from a Sky and now my turn signal 'clicks' are too quiet.  I found this post again and, this DOES work on my Sky radio, but, as it said, didn't help my turn signals :(

I wonder if my turn signals clicks are too low because the radio expects a Monsoon amp (my car is non-Monsoon)?  Anyone know what the dealer does to 'code' a radio, can they adjust the output levels for Monsoon vs non-Monsoon?  (And what exactly do I ask the service manager to do anyway? :-)
