How to: Convert your side marker into a turn signal
« on: December 29, 2008, 09:29:37 AM »
This works on all KAPPAs.  FREEEEEEEEE

Cut back insulation going to the side marker to expost the two wires, pull out the black wire and clip it as far away from the side marker as possible. This will give you room for the wire to reach the other harness.

Cut off/remove all the electrical tape going to the plug to expose the 4 wires.  I used a wire stripper on the blue wire to slide the insulation back a tiny bit and stripped the end of the black wire.  I then wrapped the black wire exposed end around the stripped section of the blue wire.  Soldered the joint and tapped everything back up.  It looks factory but has a much better safety feature.

See the difference

Youtube is blocked at work, does it work now?

I just tried it. THAT is a neat mod. After I sort out the home brewed CAI I will do that quick mod. Thanks.

Shoot, that simple too.  I went through the trouble of drilling three holes into the back of each reflector above the bulb housing and wiring in single LED's to the directionals.  This would have been so much easier.  :gaah:

07 Deep GXP auto.  A lot of cosmetic upgrades but not enough performace mods. YET.

Thanks to DBG....PoPs is flashing. Simple to do and took about thirty minutes if that long. Most of the time was probably spent finding my tools. Had seen this posted elsewhere but I held off doing it because of the relay use. If you haven't done this yet what are you waiting on? Snip, splice, tape. If PoPs can do it even you can do it. Thanks Joe.

I have a recommendation for you.  Take it back off from the bumper side of the connection and splice it in on the car side of the harness.  That way, if you need to remove the bumper, the connector can be disconnected.

DarkSlySol, as DeepBlue GXP has said, if you have to remove your bumper after you have done the mod in that manner, you will have to cut wires. If you merely move the connection on the white wire to the other side of that connector you will be able to disconnect that harness. I have photoshopped one of your pictures to show you what we mean.

It will work fine the way it is and it is not incorrect but making the electrical connection on the other side of the connector might make things easier for someone down the road.

Still though if you had to remove the bumper wouldn't you have to unplug the bulbs thus not having to worry about the wires?

You don't have to normally unplug the bulbs to remove the bumper, just the one plug on the harness.  This weekend if ChuckDoc will come over, I'll take photos of the install for his car.

I believe DeepBlueGXPs original mod had the turn signals and the marker lights flash in sync. It however required the addition of two relays to the circuit. It was no longer a free mod and added unnecessary complexity. If flashing in sync is important to you, you could contact DeepBlueGXP for more information.

The mod with relays also has the added benefit of allowing you to use LEDs in the circuit. The free mod, i.e. without the relays, will not support LEDs.
