Wanted: Advice on Eibach Spring Installation
« on: March 05, 2010, 12:37:03 PM »
I just bought a new set of Eibach Springs (Kappasphere) on the classifieds.  I expect to get them in the next week or so...

Are there any special "tricks" that I should know before attempting to replace the current "stock" springs on my 2.4L NA?

If this is a major job, would you recommend going to a dealership/auto shop for installation?

Should I get the car re-aligned after the installation since it will drop my stance by 1"/1.3"? And if so, what is the recommended setup for the lowered spings with a DDM BB and P-B?

I want to get the most out of these springs and suspension set-up that I can (performance) and plan on a massive HP upgrade in the near future (Stage III S/C), so the final set-up/alignment is the preferred choice. Easier to get it done sooner than later.

You will need spring compressors to remove and install the springs on your shocks.  You will alson need to have it on jackstands and you will have to drop the hub off of the upper a-frame.  Alignment  is a must, now if you plan ahead you can get the DDM boys to do the spring work and alignment while you are at the mod meet.  You just need to ship everything to Joe's garage ahead of time.

The more work Dave and Randy have the less time they have to look at my car, and pull goodies out of their truck and temped me with those things I need but didn't know about.

Critterman,
I am SO looking forward to going for a ride in your S/C III, it is what I am holding out for.  Just want to make sure it is the right choice for me.

How much is a spring compressor? I assume expensive. Probably will just get them professionally installed by DDM a the Meet MOD, that way I can get the "final" setup for my car at the same time...
Probably should call Dave@DDM...

Pro-beam and the BB are going to be installed in about two weeks.  My friend owns a garage and is letting me use his professional 4-point lift and tools for free.  Gotta love friends...

A good spring compressor set is about $65.  I've installed new springs on 6 cars.   There are two style compressors so make sure you get the type that compress from the outside of the sping.  You will need an alignment as Critter stated.

Which set of Eibach springs did you get? The Sport Line or the regular Pro Kit? The Sport lines will lower your car even more than the regular ones. I had mine done at the dealership. Way easier if you have a lift at your disposal. This is not an easy job in my opinion. Can be dangerous too if you are not careful with the spring compressor. You will need an alignment after-wards too.

There is a spring compressor at Joe's garage.  Want Dave's number?  We will have to go for a ride before I put 70 lbs of sound deadner in it :)
