Parts Interchange
« on: April 19, 2010, 10:01:29 AM »
Okay, I've looked here and on the big boards and I must just be missing where it is. We all know that our cars were assembled using parts from various other cars (Cobalt door handles, Cadillac rear end, etc.) Is there a definitive list of the parts and what vehicles they came from. Sure would make it easier if someone was looking for spares.
I'm sure someone has probably put this together, I just can't find it. :banghead:

Yeah, especially for wearable items like brake parts. Would be great. Don't want someone trying to rip me off telling me that the parts are rare when they are used on a million malibus or something

Bad news. A lot of stuff is proprietary to the Kappa. Engines are common, manual trans is an Aisin from light trucks, heat/air is from something (can't remember what), and diff is from Cadillac. Body, frame, interior, suspension is unique.

See the wikipedia link and scroll down to shared technology

Shared technology The sharing of technology and various components is a common practice among automakers, resulting in reduced parts costs. The Solstice shares major components with nearly every GM division:
