Helios' Push-button Start/ Keyless Entry System
« on: April 28, 2010, 09:15:06 PM »
Ok, work has had me tied up for a while keeping me from doing this project. Today, frustrated with what little time i have, I decided to do what little i can until the project is complete. So here goes.

I cut apart the key to retrieve the RF Passlock III chip. I used a razor (utility) knife and scored the plastic piece vertically in the center on both sides. I then put the key in a vice and used pliers to snap the plastic until i could see the chip. Be careful not to overtighten the vice as you may crush the chip inside. I again used the razor knife to cut the plastic slowly away until i could get the chip out. This is the final result.

[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

The chip is on the left side of the pic with the key shank next to it on the right. The little "chamber" the chip sat in the plastic piece/ handle is the upper left of the three plastic pieces on the right. Installing the chip and the key shank will probably be the last step in this whole mod.

Digital Guard Dawg Push Button Start/ Keyless Entry System:

I received excellent support in answering my questions that i ordered their product. I did purchase my system pretty much with all the bells and whistles except for the alarm system. The push button i have (Lexus style) itself is the upgraded one and i liked it much better than the stock one they offer. Documentation they provided to do the install is pretty comprehensive. I do have a phone number for tech assist from one of their techs should i experience any problems. Here is what the system looks like:

Installing the push button:

I selected a good point for my button:

[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Using a 1-1/2 inch (38mm) hole saw (deep cut) i drilled out my spot. It is better to drill a tad low at this area, as i just missed a metal structure and would have surely hit it if i had drilled any higher.

[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Using a half round file i, slowly but steadily, filed the plastic a little bit more to make the button fit VERY snugly into its new home. I test fitted the button multiple times to make sure i wasnt filing away too much. Remember, its harder to put back what you cut away than just taking away what you need little by little the first time.

[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

I fed the push button harness in and into the driver's side footwell and seated the button.

[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

You can see the harness dangling in the footwell area. I later tied it up and out of the way. That's all i had time for today. Stay tuned...!!!

What about accessory mode when someone wants to listen to the radio without having the engine running?

What about accessory mode when someone wants to listen to the radio without having the engine running?

System operation is as follows:

Approaching vehicle (approx 4 feet from vehicle) doors will auto unlock upon seeing valid iTag.

Entering vehicle:
NOT depressing brake pedal:
-The LED in the start button will illuminate upon seeing a valid iTag.
   -Press button once= accessories on
-Press button again= ignition and accessories on
-Press button again= all circuits off

Depressing the brake pedal:
-The LED in the start button will illuminate upon seeing a valid iTag.
-Press button once= starter will begin to crank
-Driver decides when to release the start button to stop starter cranking

-Doors will lock 30 seconds after vehicle starts and brake is released.
-To turn engine off- depress brake and push start button for 2 seconds
-Doors auto unlock when engine is turned off.

When leaving approx 4 foot range of vehicle. Doors auto lock and security features auto arm.

Looks awesome, thank you for sharing.

One question, our headlights stay on for another 3-5 seconds after we close the doors and the interior map lights stay on another 10 seconds. My alarm has power checks and gives an error if I activate it before those 2 lights are off. This will happen in this case too?

It is my understanding that the Flash Logic Data/ Bypass Module will prevent this, but until i complete the install i don't know for sure. I'm the first one doing the install on our cars with Digital Guard Dawg's system.

Google search Digital Guard Dawg. I spoke with Bruce from there and he helped me a lot. For the setup i have you're looking at approx $800 USD.

Awesome, I'm glad to see you're going for it.  Looks like you got everything you wanted in the system.  Are those card things the RFIDs?  They seem a little large.  Are there different options on the RFID?

The card things are the RFIDs. They are actually quite small. I'll get closer pics up later or dimensions. I think you can opt for the "regular dogtag" type RFIDs, but im not sure.

It seems you'd still need the original key fob for that function.

You could always try to identify the functional part of the RFID cards, I'm sure it's as small as the one in the keys.  Take this and shoehorn into the fob.  Ideally that's what I would prefer.

Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
