Deep - I did remove the rubber pieces from the tube where Clamp 5 and 6 go.  My problem was a fear of crushing something so I did not tighten them down tight enough.  I put clamp 5 back in place and tightened it as much as I dared (much harder than the first time) then went around and tightened 4,4a and 6 as well.  Seems to be holding after a couple of short but hard drives.
