Anyone done a proper alignment on a Kappa in NJ NY PA CT
« on: June 01, 2010, 10:11:27 PM »
I'd like to find someone who has experience doing Kappa alignments once I put my Z0K springs and Konis on it.

NNJ preferred. Anyone have a recommendation? If they have experience doing the caster that is even better.

DDM will be at Nationals.
Dave is doing an alignment for me and with the Konis, I think he could even corner weight your setup.

Kenny,
You left early from SMMM7, but I had DDM do my alignment after all the suspension work (NA to GXP with Eibachs) and have been extremely happy with it ever since.
Dave and Randy can set it up the way you want it. Street, Track, Agressive, Passive or in the middle. They judge between tire wear and performance. I recomend using them for your initial set up, then use a custom place after that to maintain it true after that.  I personally consider it the best money I have EVER spent on my SOL.

I am not driving 500 miles from NJ to Ohio in a lowered car without an alignment!

Sorry my original post was not clear. I'm going to install my Konis and Z0K springs myself, this will lower the car and :censor:  up the alignment. Then I need to drive somewhere to get the alignment done. Canton Ohio is a bit far to drive like this :)

Install them in Ohio, then have DDM do the alignment.
Problem solved

Kenny,
Do the work at home, trailer the car to nationals behind your Chevelle, and go see DDM from there.  You can then have DDM add a Supercharger to your Chevelle!  It should then be right up there with the Atom they worked on...err, um.  Yeah.

I have been looking into other options for you on the alignment... I have a shop here in my area that will do an alignment on anything and anyway you want it... no questions asked, and they do good quality work.  It is right off I-95 in CT about 80 miles north of the CT/NY border.

As far as dealerships, I don't trust them anymore for work on my SOL.

I know 10 great places that will do alignments, but I was hoping someone would know of a place who has done a Kappa before.

If you want to do an alignment within the normal specs, anyplace should be able to do that.
The problem is if you want to do a performance/racing alignment.
I was told there is a special GM tool that needs to Zero out some sensors and then they can do whatever you ask.
Not all shops have that tool.

Maybe someone can verify if I was fed a line of crap.
But other than that, and alignment is an alignment.

Yes, that's my concern, I want the Z0K alignment on a lowered car. And with someone who knows how to do the caster with the GM tool.

Kenny,

Either SnaponBob or BenL have all the specs on the performance alignment for the lowered car.  I can't remember which, but they do it themselves.  If you are going to be racing much, which I think you are, perhaps buying the kit to do your own is worth it?  I know I am not much help sometimes, but I am trying!  IIRC, the kit was less than $500 bucks and easy to learn if you had a good teacher.  You could then tweak and test on a regular basis?

You don't need the tool a good angle gauge, some straight metal, a couple of 12'x12' tiles,  and some string and you are in business

Kenny, a bit late but I have taken my car to Freeman Tire in Edison NJ.  (The same family owns my cousins shop)  They did a great job, but did not have the rear caster tool.  Any quality alignment shop should be able to do the job.  They just need the measurements / settings.  3 places around me (including a goodyear shop) will give you any alignment you need.  You just have to give them your numbers.  Worse case scenario is to have a local shop do the Z0K spec and take it to the dealer for just Rear caster adjustment.
