New Rotors,Pads and painted Calipers 2008 GXP
« on: June 13, 2010, 09:01:18 AM »
Well, after several battles with wheel alignments, balancing what not, I finaly confirmed that my stock rotors were "out of round". Weird cause I don't realy drive the car hard and only have 40,000. POS rotors.

As you can see here, the rotors being out of round caused the pads to glaze over.

So with that finally confirmed....time to upgrade!
Off with the old and on with the new.

Figured since I was upgrading rotors and pads, might as well paint the calipers while I've got it all set.

when its all said and done, lets compare.

Misc pics

For the installation, I had a friend who is a certified master mechanice walk me through the process. I learned a lot about the basic processs and some good tricks and will now always be able to swap out my own pads/rotors. I'm not sure if the process is the same for each year, but if you plan on doing a rotor/pad swap, hit me up and I'll help out. I think it took me more time to put the car up on the jack stands (very nervous) than it did to do the final rebuild. When it came to painting the calipers, I use the G2 system with 3 coats. 2 was probably enough as it worked realy well. I hope it holds up. If you want to see more of the pictures visit:

 BTW. The wicked wheel shimmys have stopped and my braking power is awesome!

That looks great! Are those the rotors & pads from DDM? And do you have any caliper paint left over, I'd be glad to offset some of the cost if you do & maybe we could hook up & do mine sometime - sorry you missed out on the SC install.

Sorry I missed the SC install. (I suck). once the G2 paint is mixed you only have a few hour to use it; sorry. These rotors are not from DDM. I did a lot of research and went with

The zinc plating helps keep them from rusting everytime I drive in the rain(and snow).

If it is just plating, won't that wear through pretty quick?

Treeman, I think he means the plating on the top hat and other no-wear areas.

By the way JimmyBaja, I have half a kit of G2 gold left over from my caliper painting if gold would work for u.  $20 shipped with a couple of clean brushes thrown in (but you'll need to supply yr own brake cleaner).
