Topic: Rear tire rubbing

I have an '09 Solstice GXP.  A few months ago I noticed that when I backed up turning the wheels to the left, the passenger side rear tire rubbed something.  It has progressed to the point that any time I turn the wheel to the left I hear something rub on that right rear tire.  I've checked the wheel and it is still tight with no noticable rub spots. I have not removed the wheel to inspect yet.  Anyone else have this problem?

Is it rubbing on the rectangular piece that protrudes on the front of the wheel well??  If so, the dealer will be able to find a TSB for that.

I'd check this first before taking it into the dealer...

The GXP has wheel vents in the front bumper and if it isn't installed properly, it'll rub the tire on tight turn radius only. 
Open your hood and look at the wheel liner.  The vent comes through a tube that when installed properly has about an 1" of foam that is showing.  You can fix this yourself, stick several fingers into the honeycomb around the fog lights and pull out.  The tube that goes into the wheel liner is supposed to be on the outside of the hole in the last photo.  With a little bit of moving/pulling the bumper while aligning the tube, you should be able to fix it. 

Since you say it was when turning to the left, I'd check only the left vent.  This is the piece Momssol described also.

He mentions the rear tire ... that is why I referenced the TSB.

But, thanks for the info on the GXP .. didn't know the grills could be a problem.

Momssol, it's not the grills, you need to pull the fog grill to get to the tube that is pictured the first three photos.  From there you can realign the tube and in photo 1 through 3, that is what the correct tube position should look like. 

I had the same issue after a repair from which the tube wasn't inserted correctly and was protruding into the wheel area more than it's supposed to.  I only discovered it on a tight turn like the OP experienced above.

Sometimes noise is difficult to trace on these cars.  Check the shock on that side and see if it is wet.  If it is, then it is probably leaking and may be letting the car down a bit.  There isn't much room in there.  You are going to have to get it in the air, pull the tire and see if you can see a rub spot in the liner.  It may be as simple as putting a tap screw in to pull the liner away from the tire.

Just returned from vacation.  Was offline for two weeks. 
I crawled under to inspect the right rear tire area.  The tire is rubbing against the liner in the area ahead of the tire.  There is a slight bulge in the liner toward the tire.  I'm going to take it in on Monday to see what the techs can do..

They will put a fastener in it to pull it away from the tire.

Works for me as long as I don't rub a hole in the liner to let moisture invade.
