Need Turbo stats on the LNF turbo
« on: July 01, 2010, 10:41:00 PM »
Does anyone know the turbo statisticts on the Lnf engine,I believe Borg Warner makes the turbo. I am thinking about putting a bigger turbo on my car next year and knowing what you have in place is a good starting point.

I don't know what you are looking for but here are some things I found when cruising the web shortly after buying the car.  Not exactly what you were asking for but maybe some good background info.

K04 Turbo Compressor Map

Wrong map.
The stock turbo is a bit smaller than the gt2860rs disco potato turbo.

Those are some really interesting articles, Treeman!  Do you have any more of the .jpg documents or can you post a link to where the docs came from?

I found them through Google - I think - on some GM websites. I have no idea what the link was.  I was afraid they might vanish one day and so just saved the documents, not the links.

I have specs on the transmission and a variety of pics and schematics.  Anything in particular?

I was mainly interested in that story on the development of the LNF.

Thanks anyway!

Thanks for the input, a turbo compressor map of the lnf turbo would be the most help. I do have a nice booklet from Garret I got from them at the SEMA show last year. Has anyone consided that the waste gate on are cars may be sub optimal and maybe the gate can.t hold 25lbs through out 3rd gear

Doubt it, the turbo can run 30+psi in the midrange but near the redline it simply can't produce enough airflow for the engine at high rpm.

Remember our turbo is (based on my personal findings):
Turbo part no. 5304 970 0059
Service turbo no. 5304 988 0059
Model spec.: K04-2277DCB437.98GGAXX (BWTS DE)

This might be the correct compressor map but couldn't be too:

I thought the one you just posted is the correct K04 turbo map.
I am assuming this is the one that was posted on the BB after it was determine the original was the wrong one.

I posted the pages a number of years ago when I had my Solstice. Now have HHR SS with same
engine. The pages I posted came from a SAE paper on the engine. There are more describing why
GM chose turbo and upgrades made to pistons with salt chamber for piston cooling and details on
fuel system.

could possibly be,but we do not know the credibility of the image hosting.
Anyway,i've seen this map again and i can comment that this one compared to the "old" we all use/know till now, this one is better in terms of flow...it flows up to 445cfm,instead of 381cfm of the other.
This means roughly you can gain +43hp using the rule of thumb(garret's info)that +150cfm nets you abt 100hp.
I'm trying to have a firm answer from borg warner(and others) on the correct map but no reply so far..!

Just go to the dyno and turn up the boost 1psi at a time until you stop gaining horsepower. Then you know the efficiency range :)

anyways, that's the stock k04 map.

Shabby already used this map and did some plotting a few months back at solsticeforum
