Jimmy, that 50 lbs extra sitting near the roof of the coupe compared to the vert will rear it's ugly head in the auto crossing stuff. :)

Well, I got rid of 30 lbs of it by leaving the targa top out.  :)  The vert just takes extra weight up top & puts it in the trunk. Or were you talking about my swelled up head from doing good - that's gonna be hard to get rid of.  :D

Extra special kudos to Dee for learning what her Sol will really do. She went from timid to terror as the day went on. By the end of the day she was wagging the tail of her coupe through the slalom portion like a seasoned pro. Go Get 'em Girl!

Rogue,
Those are badges of honor along the side of Joe's car, and you can't rub them out until you have a cone free day.  That's why I still have the marks from last year, haven't been able to go back because of my neck.

But if all of you show up locally I will join you pain be dammed and let you school me.

Yea, I know...but I had to tease Joe about something. Rogue left with a lot of right side cone blood also. On one run I deliberatley (and a few times not so deliberatley) hit several right side cones so I could learn exactly where the right side of the car is. You don't know what the limits are if you never test them.

Yep I got some of that cone stuff on mine too. Joe was teasing me because I was allready trying to get it off that same night. It's still there though, I was too tired. Have to work on it this weekend.

Great to hear the bug has bitten.  Tons of opportunities around here.  Lots of fun left this month alone.

This Saturday, July 17, CDC is running at James Wood High School in Winchester, VA.  Register at: http://www.capitaldrivingclub.com/rsvp/autox_events.php.

Closer to home perhaps, the National Capital Region BMW Club is at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf.  That's a nice big lot. Register at: http://www.dlbracing.com/clubs/nccbmwcca/register.aspx?EventID=4223&LMID=2912

The following weekend, July 24-25, of course, is the Summer Sizzler at Cumberland.  Two days of long circuit airport action punctuated by a picnic Saturday at the nicest farm/rare Corvette museum you ever saw.  Word has it the sweet corn is in!  Register at: http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frmEventDetail.Show?psevent_id=10999

If you don't want to venture that far, try the Potomac Founder's Region Porsche Club event at Bowie Baysox on July 24.  Register at:  http://www.pcapotomac.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=46&Itemid=63

Finally, on July 31, there's another CDC event, this time at James Hylton High School in Woodbridge.

I am running the FFR Coupe at Summit Point this Saturday, so I will not be at the autoxs this weekend, but the rest of the Cobra crew will likely be at CDC.

It will be nice to see you guys out there!

The videos are downloaded to my desktop at home.  The camera I had in my car was my son's and it was too heavy and the video is shaky but I have my first three runs from within the car and and none from the outside (OE error).  I was disappointed about that.    All the videos from Dee's outside were recorded and on my desktop.  I have several stills also.  I still need to convert them and edit.  Dee's camera records them as MOV and windows movie maker doesn't like the format so I use WinAvi to convert them.

Now for more on the weekend.  Thanks you Jimmy and Linda for hosting Dee and I.  Islandhopper came to support us and cheer us on.  He took some video and stills from different location.  Thanks Islandhopper!!!  IT was great seeing you out there.

On the course.  Like Jimmy said, I too am glad I had the opportunity to take this course before I developed some bad habits running some Auto X events.  Dee and I are HOOKED also.  1st up is a new alignment, JPM kneepads and then some runs.  I'm going to get the alignments this weekend.

It's amazing how the instructors changed my view points on looking at the cones from the beginning of the class to the end.  I never knew what the extra cones did for the driver, the different colors and positioning and running the backside.  Max braking before a turn and the shifting of weight by throttle response to assist in steering.   It's amazing what these cars can do.

More power doesn't necessarily mean a faster car except in the case of the FFR with the super fat sticky tires.  He's a friend of Ben L and Larry from Casey Designs (supporting vendor).

I still have some work to do on braking (possibly need big brakes up front, $$$$ ouch).  The continentals did a great job, I'm sure stickier tires would be better but I'm running on a limited budget and with Dee hooked as well, there are two cars to setup.  One of the instructors that drove my car loved the power and said, "it's got some good squirt"

We did meet the envious owner and he is the latest new member on the forum.  2007 NA Z0K without AC, no power windows or door locks, no fog lights, no traction control and the strangest thing.  He can't control the DIC so all he has displayed is the total miles in the car with no way to toggle the DIC.

All the pictures were great but it was swell that you were able to meet the newest member of the forum 2007 NA ZOK and check out his envious 2007 NA.

The last two pictures in the first post of the Hoosier 193 XP with the pipes, stripe, and trailer hitch with the tires, was a hoot!  Did he leave the shoes?

The roadster 193 was a 1965 FFR cobra replica owned by a friend of Ben L.   I was able to finish converting the videos this morning and I'll edit and post them tonight.

That is Wade Chamberlain, Capital Area Cobra Club's resident hotshoe.  He is a superb driver.  Many many FTDs in that car.  He recently ditched his Vortech supercharger and 315 rears to run NA and 295 Hoosier A6s all around.  And a helluva a nice guy, to boot.  If (as we hope you do) you guys start running a lot of area autoxs, you will see plenty of Wade, and have the lickings and lumps to prove it.  No way he left his driving shoes behind . . . .

I spoke with Wade, nice guy and terrific driving.

Here is a video of my first three runs prior to instruction.  The camera was mounted inside via suction mount off the waterfall.  I used my son's camera and it was large which made it a bit shaky.

Well, let's see.  He took FTD on Saturday at Cumberland Icebreaker in May, the first time out in the new config.

And the XP class win at the SCCA Divisionals (a really fast gutted Carrerra on billboards scratched).  And another XP class win at AI on June 14.

Larry is giving him trouble this season, though, for sure.
