Errr, I made a mistake, Insignia OPC with 2.8l V6 turbo - 325hp (LP9 Turbo) or Astra Opc 2l I4 - 280hp (LDK - A high-performance version of the LNF with 9.2:1 compression. This engine is also known as A20NFT and A20NHT by GM Powertrain Europe.)

I read his posts ;)
I was asking from which model of Opel and a direct difference between old ones and new ones on the same rpm and airflow/boost if he has that kind of data.

At 7500 rpm w/ fuel rail pressure at 16mpa and stock injectors , I get 9ms which is not good.

Now, at 7500 rpm w/ fuel rail pressure at 17.4mpa at Opel injectors, I get 3.4-3.8ms which very good :)

Bye K1, hello Carillo Pro H-beam rods!!!! We'll install these bad boys to make sure my block can handle 800hp of compound turbo power all day w/o even sweating!

Thanks to "project scarab" for providing the rods! :)

Well last week, I learned a small lesson not to skimp on small stuff during a build. Or I'll end up paying even more.

About two years ago, a stock chain tensioner was installed in this engine, since I completely forgot to have my Bates unit be used. So I just let it be..... And wasn't really worried about it.

After all the dyno/street runs, last week the stock unit failed and caused the timing to skip a tooth or two.

Btf believes that nothing internally was damaged. All rockers was still in place, which is a good sign.

He has to remove the whole compound manifold to get access to this issue, and replace it with my Bates tensioner.

Well I figured that, since josh (project scarab)basically just gave me his set of Carillo rods since he is going V8, and BTF is basically gonna hook me up by pulling the engine out to have access to the tensioner and also install the Carillo rods.....so why not take this opportunity to have a peace of mind?

By spending a couple of hundreds now to install the carillo rods, will prevent me from spending several thousands later on.

Once a rod breaks, it can damage lots of engine internals or can easily go make a hole in the block :)
I've seen photos of some members with a window on their blocks :)

K1 rods are very decent rods, but probably maxes out around 600hp. I will sell them to recover the couple of hundreds extra that I have to pay for pulling out my engine.

The carillo h beams will easily handle 1000hp. I'm not shooting for that number, but I rather have an over-kill bottom end with this compound build, for safety reasons.

I have carillo rods and wiseco pistons.  The carillo's are a more exact length for the LNF.  The K1s were really for the 2.4 but would work.
Now it makes sense.  I thought you just got the rods and without a reason, thats a decent amount of work to swap rods after having all the other work done.

Well, four yrs ago when I was "planning" my compound build. I didn't know that I'll go for 800hp.

I think I was only planning for 600hp.

That's why I got the k1 sponsorship.
And I looked at the carrillo rods..... A beams for $900 and H beams for $1200. Ouch!

So the choice of rods was a no brainer for me during that time!

But as the years passed by, I kept changing the numbers to 700 then to 800hp lol

Esp when I bought the gt4294r for my big turbo.

So I'm glad, that project scarab decided to go w/ v8 build and doesn't need his carrillo rods anymore.....and my tensioner broke. So kinda perfect opportunity for me to upgrade the rods! :)

It used to be managed by Mr. Molnar who sponsored me.

I did my advertisement for years and even in car shows.
I even sent them a magazine a year or so ago with my car and k1 mentioned on the article as well as listed as one of my sponsors.

So I already did part of my bargain.

On top of that..... K1 is owned by Carrillo which is under Dover group.
So I'm still representing their company :)

Plus he now owns his own rod company = molnar technologies

Well today, I just found out that project scarab's donation was a Bates billet chain tensioner

I will use this unit instead of my gen 2 chain tensioner with bates stiffer spring that fell apart

Hopefully this will hold better

I recently got this bullet-proof bolt for ecotec's timing chain guide.

Might as well install it, while fixing the chain tensioner issue.

Bates timing chain tensioner doesn't have the ratchet mechanism, stock unit has one.

Interesting. I think the werks one just added a spacer for the spring
That looks a little better as it can still give all the way if needed

ok, we're back on the project  :)

sorry, I had to prioritize my finances for the past year.  Having a baby girl makes a huge difference........and car hobby becomes the last of my priorities.

Anyways, when BTF was test driving the car on the street last year,  the timing chain skipped a tooth or two.    So that was a major blow.

We talked about getting a smaller turbo so we can spool faster.   Basically replacing my small turbo (gt2871r) with a gt2860r.    And we have to pull out the motor so he can inspect the internals if there were any damages due to the timing chain skipping.    While the motor was out, he also replaced the k1 rods with Carillo H-beam rods.

We dodged a bullet, and luckily no internal damage found!

Just found out today that My plan of replacing my small turbo (gt2871r) with a smaller turbo (gt2860r) to get a faster spool ....won't work after all.
I thought these gt28 based Garrett turbos share the same size turbine housing, but I guess not .
The gt2860r that I bought won't fit the Tial turbine housing used for my gt2871r.
We'll just stick with my original turbo then.

Motor is all back up. I'm glad nothing was destroyed.
BTF gasket matched the head with the Werks phenolic spacers

Stock Intake is being prepped to be matched as well

Stock intake manifold was gasket matched and ported clean

Secondary injectors already plugged in!

As a matter of interest ('cos I don't know), does porting/polishing the intake on a turbo car make much difference to power?

According to Dr. Dave, when I asked that question last week, it depends on the hp you are trying to achieve. At 400-450, not really.
