Organizing weekly rides.
« on: August 23, 2010, 11:25:36 AM »
Hi, when we did two wheeled riding, we had (may still have) an informal group ride every week during warm weather.  If you wanted to ride with the group, meet at the courthouse on Thursday night at 6:30 PM and leave on a ride at 7 PM.  Anyone was welcome, anyone could volunteer to lead the ride.  Usually an hour or two to a food place along interesting roads.

Does anyone do that with roadsters?  How well does it work for you?

I am thinking more of a half day (at least) ride, starting on a Saturday or Sunday morning no later than 9 AM.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks,

Tim

Tim,

While back we used to do this for the DE/MD crew and we just picked the third Saturday and used to meet at the local dealer who let us use the conference room.  Worked out pretty well in the beginning till everyone gets to know one another.

that sounds a little harsh Mike, I think what he means is that now we go in smaller groups not so dictated by a set schedule.  Most of us have become friends.

During the summer you would think it would be easy, but around here attendance seems low because people would rather go out on a boat, have family obligations or drive to a different state to enjoy an organized run with another forum group.

Yup, we go to our ocean city place most summer weekends.  Fall is great for rides though.  I unfortunately love early morning rides and out for breakfast.  Not many people like early.  But I always am interested.

I think another factor that Wonderingsol and myself have to contend with is that where we are the Kappa density is pretty low.  I know there are two other forum members relative to my location and they are both about an hour or more drive (in opposite directions of course).  So if one person can't make it attendance is down by 33%.  Sorry I didn't get over to your cruse a few weeks ago WS.  There are other Kappa owners but the few that I have run into have little interest in doing anything.

You guys out in the DC area don't know how great you have it!

A 6 hour drive north to Wisconsin Dells on Sept 23-26 would net you about 20 cars to drive with - along with some terrific roads - and, AND great times in the evenings.

We have a small group run on the 12th of September, 20 folks total.  Hmmm SA, when we have large get togethers, people travel from all over the east coast to attend.  NY, CT, DE, NJ, MD, DC, VA, GA, SC, NC, FL and a clown from CA.  You just need to get some guys involved in your area.    My (our)  first meet was only a few folks and it's grown as people have meet others.  We never ran a organized club so to speak.  More like an impromptu run.  We did a sick day run a couple of years ago when we hit a heat wave in January and in about 1 or 2 days notice we had 10 cars running and skipping out of work.

Joe, you forgot Florida (ibdrinkin) and the wandering minstril from CA was there for the last meet, but he didn't have a car.  The reason I say this is because we always have a run during the mod meets.

DBG don't forget you will also have a Joker from Central Hellinois at the next mod meet.

It would be nice to get a group of Kappas together here but there just isn't that many around and of those that are not many want to get together.

Hell SA, you can drive down in a day.  I drove to Buffallo on a Friday, Detroit on Saturday, and Home on Sunday.  You should be able to do Tolono to the woods Ranch in a day
