Wide pictures and horizontal scrolling
« on: August 09, 2010, 07:51:21 AM »
So pretty often a large picture inside a post causes the body of the post to stretch horizontally past the right side panel. You get a horizontal scrollbar and you can never see the entire picture. I think the entire site should stretch horizontally instead.

Patrick.schmidts latest thread is a good example.

I see them without horizontal scrollbars.  :worms:
Get yourself a larger resolution screen and stop buzzing around because of your ipad weak resolution.  :poke:

Ouch!!!

I have a really large monitor because I do huge graphical publications, so I don't have this problem.

Maybe something like they did on the BB would help you.

I have a big monitor at work. and a nice sized screen on my laptop. i can change my browser zoom to deal with it. but i bet a lot of less technical folks around here are not aware of how to deal with this, so i think it would be good to look into.

it's probably just a CSS setting (style sheets)

No, is not just a css setting. This has to do with img BB tag handler. Needs some work on functionality or a proper mod/hack for it.

P.S. Strike #2 with that FU Penguin, first strike was with the book, fear of strike 3

It has to do with the site the photo is hosted from.    Photos attached directly to the forum are auto thumbnailed and when clicked expand to full size.

For an attached image (FU penguin) there is a thumb, but when expanded the same thing occurs. I think the entire site should go wide when the image is zoomed. Just my opinion :)

I have two shots attached to show what I mean.

The post space won't get any larger due to the vendor banners on the right.  I'll do some checking and see what else I can do to make this easier.

Yeah the vendor banners could get pushed to the right to make room, but only when necessary.

Joe, isn't there a mod to auto resize the pictures to a lower resolution?

I think a scroll bar on each photo (rather than one for the whole post as it is now) would be a good compromise.  At least the scroll bar is close-by then, rather than as now where you have to scroll down to the bottom of what's usually a series of photos in the post, scroll right/left then scroll back up to your photo to see if you scrolled sideways enough!
