Well for those that guessed ported head  :yay: :yay: :yay:

some more pics of the install:

Stock Head Flow numbers -

Intake
.100 - 82.64
.200 - 164.35
.300 - 215.00
.400 - 244.50
.500 - 251.80

Exhaust
.100 - 45.28
.200 - 109.47
.300 - 138.39
.400 - 143.64

DDM Head
Intake
.100 - 82.64
.200 - 164.40
.300 - 219.00
.400 - 258.00
.500 - 268.00

Exhaust
.100 - 71.60
.200 - 139.00
.300 - 160.13
.400 - 168.53
.500 - 171.54

Also some important things we learned during the testing of the 3 different heads that we did for this.
The 2 other heads had 1mm larger valves in them, which is even larger than the supertech's that people have installed, and we found that the valve is not the restriction in the head, the port is the limiting factor. So larger valves are not buying you any airflow. The head that went on Randy's car had the best flow all the way around with stock sized valves, we are limited by the intake manifold and exhaust manifold at this point and are looking into where those restrictions are also.

We need to get some more tuning on the head and will post up some dyno numbers once done,

Dave

Dave, good find!

should we also assume that these statements also apply on an LNF engine?

I would assume so also, but we are having them take a look at the 2.0L head also to see where the restriction is on the intake side. We will also have pricing on the head packages in a couple days.

Also we found that there are ways to port the head that make it flow less then stock, so if you are getting head work done, make sure it is done on a flow bench!

I'm pretty sure I remember some folks on the BB saying they have done head work and there wasn't much of an improvement. The Ecotec build book has some info about it as well.

There is definitely an improvement with the head, but I will say that the first cylinders that were done decreased flow numbers on the flow bench. I would love to see what some other people are getting on ported heads, as we had a total of 4 different heads done to come up with the one that worked the best. We will see what the LNF head does, but by looking at it and some dimensions on it, I would think it is going to respond very similar to the LE5 head, in that the port area is going to be the limiting factor for flow on the head, bigger valves are not going to buy any flow, and that normal porting practices will lose power. We will see though.

I am guessing that the first number is stock and the second is after porting? Do you know what kind of flow bench was used and what vacuum?
