Kenny @ Watkins Glen with PCA 2010
« on: August 18, 2010, 10:20:58 PM »
I got to go to the famous and amazing Watkins Glen International circuit for 3 days last weekend. Formula 1 used to race here in the 60's 70's and 80's and NASCAR ran at the track a week before us so there was lots of rubber on the ground. The walls are really close with not a lot of runoff, so it's scary.  But once you get used to it... it's a really great track.

Here's a link to the photo gallery, and I think I'll have a little video soon:

http://gallery.me.com/kennysabarese/100429

We also did a track walk, amazing to see the elevation changes on foot:

http://gallery.me.com/kennysabarese/100436

Car held up pretty good. Went into limp mode a few times and the Porterfield street pads could barely keep up with the braking demands. The track has a lot of straights so there is a lot of hard braking without much time for cooling in between.

Going to have to go to race pads now.

Not sure why I got limp mode. I was only running 25psi. I was running 30psi a few weeks ago with no problems.

Glad your street tune held up on the big track. I've run there a few times and it's not fun sliding through T3-4-5 with the blue Armco right there.  :) did you run the boot also? Very fast course and because of it if you'd have spindle ducts you'd have no problem with brakes. I run 3800 lbs car with stock pads and ducting to the spindles 135-140 MPH on both straights.

Fun course for horsepower cars!

I have a race tune but turned down the boost until I get an IC. Yes we ran the boot.

What's that about a spindle now?

It's funny, cuz I was driving around and saw signs for Southern Tier, a place I didn't really know where it was until that moment, and then remembered your location.

I really wish I had thought about it sooner I would have invited you over. I'm sorry.

Hammer,

Don't take it personal.  Kenny is like that sometimes.  He is the most intense race car driver ever and sometimes he loses track of things.

Kenny- great pics.  Glad you had a good time and very few technical issues.  Did you figure out why you got limp mode?

My car has been going into limp mode more with this latest tune. Working on it with Lyndon.

Elff,
you know me so well :)

GJ

Kenny,
What sort of things are you tweaking?  Seems like you have been working with Lyndon for ever to try to get the tune right?  Or is it more that you are trying to get more from the tune, rather than trying to get it right?

two things. 1 i want less boost so i don't break anything around 25psi for now. 2 i've seen been getting KR so he's been removing timing.

Hi Ken.....great photos.  Must be really nice to run with those awesome cars.

You've been mentioning on this thread that you have been encountering limp mode lately.   I know that Wester is already using the latest HP beta that already removed the limp mode issue.   I am wondering why you're still getting limp mode.

anyways, great photos!!!

I'll send you a PM.....got some questions for you

SKY888: limp mode doesn't mean neccesarely overboost limp mode, the engine can get into limp mode for various reasons. Don't think Kenny's limp is related to overboost protection which can be fixed easily with latest beta of HPT.

anybody else reported limp mode issues not due to overboosting?   maybe fuel delivery issues?  what other issues we've been discovering lately that causes this limp mode?

thanks!

sorry if its OT kenny!

I've been getting codes. P0236 mostly and sometimes P2261.

I had another thread but it wasn't specifically about that. I'll start a new one if I come up with anything worth talking about.

Right now I think I am not going to do anymore events for the rest of this year because I'm getting married in 5 weeks and I'm fed up with all the problems with the car and can't spend the time screwing with it.
