I checked with the body shop and he used a reducer. I was told it is not for use by amateurs. You have to know exactly how much to rub and how much pressure to apply if not you will take off the paint too. He also said that the longer paint is on there the harder it is to get off. Good luck!

For those not familiar with the terminology, "reducer" and "lacquer thinner" are essentially the same product. Lacquer thinner is a generic product, while reducer has been specifically formulated for the particular brand of products the paint shop uses.

30 grit on an orbital sander, but you must have a very light touch  :poke:

Or, if the spots are on the hood or trunk, go by The Home Depot and rent a floor sander....

Critter I have a pressure sandblaster that puts out slightly more then 30 grit, do you think that will work, as more grit means a finer finish doesn't it?

You are correct, but it is very difficult to have a light touch with a pressure sandblaster, air too low and it clogs, too high cuts a whole in the metal.

another thread gets highjacked and GJ wastn't even here, but we can still blame him right?

Take it to Joe, see if he can get them out, if not you will require professional assistance.

Well WD40 worked well!  Thanks 1 LIL NDN!

A quick wiki search says that WD40 has some hexane in it, same thing as mineral spirits, so that agrees with some of the other posts too.

I first used it on a hidden part of my wife's MINI, looking for any color change on a white microfiber, didn't see any, so went ahead and tried where the spots were.  Seems to do the trick on both vehicles......

I'm interested in a solution as well, I've got white paint specs all over my car's front bumper, side mirrors, and rear quarter panels. My usual polishing compound didn't do a thing. Really makes my black car look like crap...

I had white specs all over my car also.  I wonder if we went past a building on base that was getting sprayed?   Paint reducer worked for me.  I didn't try the WD-40 method.  I noticed today I forgot to clean off the right mirror, it still has white specs so I'll try the WD-40 method.

It's certainly possible, I have heard of that happening on base from time to time.

Many years ago I drove over some orange oil based house paint..don't know if this helps but the old mechanic at my garage said to use GoJo the non pumice type.. I put it on let it sit for a good hour and just used my hand to rub it in and remove the drops..it didn't hurt the clear coat or the paint.. drops came right off..again this was nearly 30 years ago who knows it may still work
