BC Coilover adjustment?
« on: October 07, 2010, 02:00:18 AM »
So I just put on some BCs and noticed something quite peculiar... On my driver side, I can stick two fingers directly in front of the tire and touch the fender well plastic.  On the passenger side, I can hardly get my index finger in front of the tire between the fender well plastic.

I know that there is adjustments for the hood and deck lid, but is there an adjustment for the front fascia?  I have a feeling that I'm rubbing on the passenger side when the wheel is turned 100% right and its giving me bad wear on my V710s.  Any advice?

No advice.  But here's my BC experience.  My mechanic was very methodical during the installation process and took measurements several times and even counted the thread rotations during the installation and adjustment process.  However after installation both of us thought the same thing when we first saw the car parked on a level surface; that the rear of the car appeared to sit lower than the front.  A more experienced mechanics explanation was the front wheel well is larger than the rear wheel (to allow for turning radius) which was causing an optical illusion if your just look at the tire to wheel well gap.  He said, quite looking at the wheel gaps and focus on the bottom of the rocker panel (then I could see the rear sat just a tad higher than the front) and he went on to say that all bodies will have some variances between them.  The installer told me that if it bugged me he'd lower the front more; the 2nd mechanic cautioned lowering any farther in the front so I've basically learned to live with it.

So maybe your best bet is to park on a level surface and take measurements from the ground to the rocker panel height and see it there is a noticeable difference from the bottom of the rocker panels side to side.

I don't think Vanguard is talking about a vertical issue more of a fore/aft problem.

Sounds like you need to have an alignment done.  Just as a test try measuring the distance from the center of the front to rear wheels on both sides of the car, if its off as much as you describe you should be able to just use a tape measure and see a different number.  If the numbers match check to see if the wheel well liner is installed properly.

Sol got it right.  Here's what I was talking about...

Passenger side

Driver side

My original post was backwards...the issue I'm having is on the driver side.
I couldn't get a clear picture of it, but there is a spot where the plastic has gone flat from some rubbing issues.  I had an alignment done a week ago after I installed the BCs...If this seriously is a wheel alignment issue, I'll take it back in tomorrow and raise Cain.  However, there is a little bit of misalignment in my front fascia.  So the question remains...is there a way to adjust the front fascia similar to how one would adjust body panels?

Mods, if you could change the subject back to the original topic, it would be much appreciated!

I've got an autocross event this weekend and I really dont want to go out and destroy my r-comps...if anyone has any insight please help!!

I saved off a .pdf 2 years ago that I called "solstice body adjustments."  I just tried to open it, though, and apparently the file is corrupted.  If you want it anyway, just PM your e-mail address.  Also have the collision repair manual, but it's more tailored to straightening the frame and getting all of the bonded panels aligned/installed properly.  There's nothing in that one about panel adjustments.

edit:  Looks like that document is in the thread that arabas linked.  It's in small dealer's post.  I just clicked on it and it opens fine.  Gonna replace my corrupted file.  Good luck!

vanguard, stick your hand in the opening and give the front bumper a hard couple of pulls away from the tire.  That will bring it out.  I had to use that trick on another car.

Thanks Arabas, thats exactly what I was looking for!

I think the adjustment I need is a little of page 21 and 23.  So part of it is manhandling that one side...

yes, I know of a coupe that bumped another car in the rear and the front bumper was back some what that the hood alignment was seemed to be out over top of the bumper.  I grabbed the edge of the bumper by placing both hands between the tire and liner, yanked on it real hard about 3 times and re-aligned everything.  Worked great.
