Arabas: glad you convinced yourself one more time that Solo is the way to go when is about exhaust

About surge, I think that happens because the new turbo pushes more air than our engine can inhale for that rpm so the air gets back to the compressor blades, stop getting into this range because you risk to blow your new compressor. I bet this happens in low rpm.

In this case sounds good, means the new turbo pushes more air with same tune than the stock turbo. I think the solution is simple, tune needs to ramp up the boost a little slower as it does now.

i mean it Kelu, someone else (and i have good examples) wouldn t reply so fast to my email. Steve replied as soon as he got out of bed!

i am not moving the car at all. as soon as i have the gasket in my hands, i will drive it carefully to get the leak fixed and then i will test the tune that Vince will have sent me.
i trust Vince on tuning. i believe it is going to be a good improvement, i could hear the turbo spooling up from 1800rpm !!

according to the very very interesting post Tomato soup posted here
http://www.kappaperformance.com/forum/index.php?topic=5557.msg76973;topicseen#new

this is the link to the how-to
http://www.astraownersclub.com/vb/showthread.php?t=214478

this is a kit they used to treat my upgraded turbo. the thrust bearing they used is what i described as thross 360 (obviously it is called thrust 360 and it is an upgraded thrust bearing).
i also saw the glue instant gasket, that Megas mentioned in one of his post.

I think it's worth saving the thread from the other forum here for historical sake since image hosting sites expire and this valuable info would be lost.  I've attached a PDF of the rebuild instructions which is the single post of the other forum.  Thanks to TS for originally posting.    I'm going to also rename and sticky this thread for ease of searching.

Just a note... that how-to is written in "real" English.  For the colonials reading this, "Spanner" == "Wrench"

Quick update,
the gasket arrived today (actually there were 2 gaskets in the envelope ?!).
flashed it to stock and drove it real gently to the dealer.
told him the whole truth and nothing but the truth (he is a GT owner himself)
he is going to place the gasket and to make the 3rd annual service.
going to pick it up on Thursday since i will be out of town for bussines.
only thing left is a first updated tune from Vince...

fingers crossed that everything will work out fine.  :(

first tune reduced surge but it is still there. also while doing datalog, compared to a tuned GT with stock turbo. almost same power but it seems it has the potential, especially in 4th gear, to gain a lot.

waiting for the next updated tune and the rain to stop...

The best of the upgraded wheel IMHO, is the part of not having to press to hard on the right foot to get the car to go.

LV i suppose this implies that torque is significantly bigger.
if this is so, in a rolling 3rd gear comparison with a stock turbo tuned kappa, there should be quite a difference.
did you first get yours tuned with stock turbo and then went with the big wheel upgarde, or was it tuned for the first time when u got a big wheel upgrade?

It was tune for the 1st time with the wheel upgrade.
However my dealer wiped it out 8 months later with the stock tune and that sensation was still there but less pronounce.
Then DDM had an upgrade to their original tune and the torque monster was awakened even more than before.

is there someone who had first tuned his kappa with stock turbo and then upgraded the compressor wheel and retuned?
if yes, did you actually see any significant increase of power?
i am saying that because it is easier when you have a tune and then upgraded wheel tune to spot differences.
Quote from Vince:
"As for power being the same, I’m not really surprised.  I’ve never seen much of a difference in performance with upgraded wheel turbos.  Your airflow numbers are about the same as a stock turbo."

We are still working on resolving the surge issue and then see what Vince can do about power gains.
