Honestly. it doesn't matter. turn it up until it knocks. then turn it down.

^^^ well said.  But methanol has a RON of 133. So adding 10 percent of that to 90 percent of 93.   What would that be.  I don't know the equaton.  Plus adding straight water injection increases the octane as well.

Again: water does not increase the octane of the burned mixture, or else we'd be filling our tanks with Poland Spring.

It cools the air and cylinder walls to reduce knock. It's a similar result but it is done in a very different matter.

The point is, which is better? Well the only way to know that, is to see the timing you can get away with with both methods.

I have nothing against water/meth. I recently read a website about a company who run bikes on the salt flats and they use it, spraying directly into each cylinder.

It's just different.

I stand corrected on the water increasing octane.  Didn't research enough.  Research is hardon a 3.5 inch screen.

You can use a wireless keyboard with an iPhone. Makes typing a lot faster to help the research.

Water may not have octane and burn, but it will explode with a lot of power, don't belive it?  Older aircraft carriers (before nuclear power) used steam engines to turn the shafts and propel the ship.  A carrier displaces  a lot of water and it takes massive HP to get it moving.  1200 lbs of steam pressure will cut you in half.

Still a non believer?  Half fill and seal a glass jar, put it on the stove on high and then get behind something while it heats up

Gee Mister Wizard I guess they don't make glass jars like they used to.

You forgot to mention that you need to reinforce the jar with a row of nails taped to the outside. :kwh:

PS you shouldn't give GJ ideas like this.  He is likely to try them and mess up his wife's kitchen and then she would be made at you.  Don't worry GJ I don't think there is any chance you will suffer any personal injury if you try this.
