Review: Porter Cable 7424 Buffer
« on: January 16, 2009, 07:15:24 PM »

This is the first dual action buffer I have ever owned, I had used a 3/4 hp Craftsman buffer before very good way to burn you paint if you are not careful.

Pro's it is very hard to burn your paint, it does a great job of taking out minor scratches and is easy to learn to use if you take the time to either read how to use it or learn from someone.

Con's it is very easy waste your time if you don't take the time to learn to use it. I ran it on full speed no matter what I was doing when I first got mine, not the right way to do it.

After I learned to use it correctly, it is an amazing product for not much money. Dark Tech and Go-N Def have become masters with it

Ok, I will review Preparation H.  It works pretty good.  Much better than Preperation G or even Preparation F.  Cons, I heard it makes you look younger and rubbed it all over my body.  This was not a good idea.  I went from 6'4" tall to 3' 2".  Thats right, it shrunk me right down to the nub.

Please only use as directed.

Thanks for that Chuck, I tried Preparation H, I ate that whole dang tube and I still have hemorrhoids, but my mouth is so small I can't eat a jelly bean, but I sure can whistle good.

(by the way Chuck you were supposed to start a separate thread)

Hey anyone can do a review, I am sure everyone has bought something that they either loved or hated in the past year, I really want to read the one's about the crappy stuff. I just bought some of those SHAM-WOW! things they have on TV, I haven't tried them yet will review them soon.

Pro's for me:

1) It's easy to learn on, just use someone elses car.
2) It is very hard to get "Bad" results even if your new to it.
3) It's a time saver, IF you know how to use it properly as lil goat eluded to.
4) The Rotary part of the Dual Action builds up enough friction to break down polishes corectly, unlike an orbital buffer.
5) The Orbital part of the Dual Action helps it not to burn your paint like a rotary buffer.

Cons for me:

1) Too much use will cause your hands to go numb!
2) A little more pricey than your average buffer.  Orbital $20, Rotary $60, PC 7424 $150 (but you can find it online for $105 if you shop around).

Tip: Throw the side handle away. You get better control and can get in tigther spaces with out it.

I figured out how to get bad results, leave it to me. I used way to aggressive a pad on new paint, turned out OK cause I also learn how to due severe paint correction. First rule is to use the least aggressive pad you can to get the job done. Or just don't ever use a YELLOW pad on your Solstice, but it worked very well on the older more abused paint on my truck.

I did, when I first bought it.  It's basically a white polishing pad.  I threw it out as soon as I bought a velcro backing plate.  You can also go with the same system that lil goat uses.  Maybe he should do a review on that.  I'm probably gonna switch over to it when I get back in town...

I also use the Porter Cable 7424.
I use the orange pad.
Set the setting on 4 or 5
Click below to help with using the 7424

Be sure you place the cable over your shoulder and if you are wear pants with belt loops  tuck the cable in the loop in the back
will help keep it from falling and or getting in your way.

I do use this companys product and been using them for over 10 years. I am not trying to endorse them.

I use the Edge system, I had the velcro backing plate and got really tired of the pad flying off. I will do a review of the Edge, good idea Def.
