Topic: Turn signal won't return to middle

All of a sudden my turn signals don't return to the middle after turning to turn off the left or right turn signal.  Anyone know how to fix this?

ah, you probably already tried that.
Most likely you will have to replace the whole unit

Sounds like something broke on the steering column.    I can't remember if when I had the airbag out if I could see is the turn signal detents

I ended up buying a new GM turn signal switch (AC Delco PART#15915857) on ebay for $22.00.  I was an easy replacement except the left side of the lower dash got in the way.  I ended up taking apart the lower dash and the speedometer trim just to remove and replace the part.  It was just 2 locking tabs and 2 wire connectors to remove for the turn signal switch.  Works great now.

No pictures.  The part is a whole unit remove and replace and really simple.  It's just there isn't much room to pull the part away from the steering column so removal of dash bolts and trim had to be done.  See the process below from alldatadiy.

Removal:
1. Remove the steering column trim covers.
2. Disconnect the multifunction turn signal switch harness connector.
3. Depress the locking tabs and remove the multifunction turn signal switch from the steering column.

Installation:
1. Install the multifunction turn signal switch to the steering column. Ensure the locking tabs are snapped into place.
2. Connect the multifunction turn signal switch harness connector.
3. Install the steering column trim covers.

Thanks for the info numba!  I'm actually getting to the age where the broken turn signal might come in handy...you know, driving in the left lane at 3/4 speed limit with the left (or right) turn signal on for mile after mile after mile.....I can hardly wait be that old....I know, short trip, but I'll have my turn signal on all the way!!

lol  there are a lot of bends and such, it's a good idea to leave that turn signal on!

The part I am having trouble with is removing the steering wheel covers.  The bottom 2 are easy but I cant seem to remove the top one

If tilting the column all the way down won't allow you to remove the top piece or at least get it out of the way far enough to get the switch out, it may be necessary to drop the column.
