interesting GXP weight difference: coupe vs. 'vert
« on: December 21, 2010, 02:24:56 PM »
on my way back from picking my gxp coupe up in socal last month, i stopped by my shock builder's shop in sfo, and got my car on his longacre scales.  in terms of weight-related specs, with 1/3 tank of gas, Z0K FSB/RSB/springs/crossmember, street edition wheels, full tread stock tires, monsoon package w/ 6-disc changer, leather, GMPP CAI, DDM probeam and the top on, the car weighed in @ 2946.  my gxp 'vert weighed 2899 in BS autox prep, which consisted of 1/4 tank of gas, SSR 18x8's, FE3 FSB, Z0K springs/RSB/crossmember, fresh hoosier A6's, a straight pipe after the cat exiting just behind the driver, monsoon sound and leather.

by my calculations, this means i've got this much weight to lose in BS prep in the coupe:

wheels (30.4lbs): 4 x [street edition (26lbs) - ssr 18x8 (18.4lbs)]
tires (12lbs): 4 x [stock (27lbs) - hoosier a6 (24lbs)]
gas (6.5lbs): 6 x [weighed (1/3x13) - race (1/4x13)]
exhaust (31.4lbs): stock (42lbs) - pipe (10.6lbs)
free weight, no targa top (30lbs)
free weight, no probeam (7lbs)
===
117.3lbs (!)
.. meaning in BS prep, it'll weigh ~2830lbs (!!!)

bah, i forgot the aluminum lug nuts, floor mats, air compressor and washer fluid drain, lol. with the added weight from the stock airbox vs. CAI, remote reservoirs on the new shocks, 5mm spacers and the extended lug nuts, i'll call it a wash for simplicity :D

i could also take the a/c and monsoon setup out, as well as swap leather for cloth, but since it's my daily, that won't be happening.  surprising, to say the least!  lighter car w/ a stiffer chassis, no complaints here.  gotta love silly season :)

Looking good! May I consider a Braile 15 lbs battery ode some weight reduction?

Can you use two piece rotors up front in BS?

no go on both.  battery can only be replaced with OEM-equivalent (especially in terms of weight), braile definitely doesn't meet that criteria!  ditto on the rotors.
now as for SOB and the BSP crew, they have a lot of places to reduce weight that i can't.

I too was curious how much mine weighed. As it sits with the SC system, some stereo system stuff, backbone/probeam & 1/4 tank of gas it weighed right at 2990lbs.

For every 7 pounds you gain one HP. Time for the driver to go on a diet?  :poke:

Or maybe that is just for motorcycles.
