New Member sans a Kappa
« on: December 29, 2010, 09:23:17 AM »
Greetings,

I'm a new member; joined yesterday.  I don't have a Kappa yet as I'm in search of one.  It is mainly for my wife; supplementing her daily driver E36 M3.  We are looking at a Brazen GXP with manual transmission.  It seems that such combo is not a rarity (2 in-state and 2 in IL that haven't sold since at least summer this year), I guess it just doesn't sell at dealers which is good for us.

At any rate, I come from an auto-enthusiast family and it continues.  Nowadays, my wife and I race a C6 Z06 at autox for fun.  I also drift whenever I got a chance and given that I have extra tires.  This is also the first foray back into forced-induction 4cyl after a 7-year hiatus (we used to autox two second-gen Talon AWDs).

So, I'm looking forward to be active in this forum (hopefully we find one with the price we're willing to pay before the year ends).  I have already researched braces, suspension pieces, and maybe a rather controversial/weird concept of changing the hub PCD to that of a Corvette's (did this to my 6-lug CTS-V) so it can share wheels with the rest of the stable.

That's all for now :)

Welcome to the forum POS VETT!  Your background lends itself to a happy home here on this forum.  You see, we are all enthusiasts here, and yes some members enjoy racing and drifting.  I would certainly like to hear more about your C6 ZO6, what a sweet ride!  Once you get into forced induction 4 cylinder you will be hooked.  Ah, Talon AWDs, back in the day, I had a friend who owned a Talon and it was indeed a hoot.  In fact it was what got me into the purchase of our 95' Bird.  Well, have gotten a bit off, but welcome to the forum.  You might find a gold diggers bunch of helpers here to locate a Kappa to meet your every desire.  Good luck in your search!

Thank you for the warm welcome :)  I'm sure this forum will make a good home for us.

I become "sophisticated" sometimes and use foreign words such as "sans".  I'm originally from Indonesia and I reside in US.

The vett thing in my nick ?  Hahahaha, it does mean the commonly-known abbreviation, i.e. Piece of Sh1t.  Long story on that.  It is the license plate on the Z06.

Thank you.  Although I doubt we'll be racing a Kappa. A 505-hp Corvette is very hard to beat in fun factor autox-wise ;)

Thank you again.   Today we are going to try the Brazen for the second time.  We also found a GXP-R but I don't think it's right for us today.

I must be new here but what is a GXP-R?

Google tells me it's a sema show one off?

Did you ever Auto-X and have a Solstice on the field too?

There was only one GXP-R like GJ said and it was a baby blue color, so if it isn't that color, then it's a poser and not real.
It was basically a GXP with upgrade tune and a couple of groves cut into the bumper just below the hood.  The power is the same as a GXP with GMPP upgrade.

Awww, the spark for Rudy's recessed grills.  I still want those upper fascia vents.

It *is* for sale on autotrader atm.

Sorry, she is the only daughter in her family :/

Unless you are interested in her two single brothers, which IMHO are a lot uglier than her ...

GJ

Like the others said (and you were correct), it's a SEMA one-off and it is for sale in Autotrader.  I did some research and its VIN indicated some special vehicle status including an "option" that says it's non-saleable.  The VIS indicated a full warranty block, different color combo (tan on aggressive), and a few other unusual things.  The GXP-R has black top on light blue metallic which I recognize as Jet Stream Blue on C6s.

Notice also the fender vent that has OEM-looking grille.  The location of the vent is different from what most Kappa-ers would claim as the same as the one on Norm's Fiberglass fender.  I believe all the different parts/locations can be duplicated.  Whether it's worth the extra $5-8k, it's up to the potential/owner.  Personally, I would love to get the GXP-R (wife hates the color with a passion) **AND** a Brazen for the wife to drive around but I have only so much resource.

Haha, well i'll keep hunting on this end :)

..and i agree fully on the horrendous color of the 'R' and being a GM show car i'm sure there will be all sorts of problems with registration.  Not worth it just for that fascia...

Welcome aboard POS VETT! I have a Brazen GXP and it is certainly an attention getter! Did not really like it at first but I got used to it in fairly short order. If you get the brazen you will get myriad comments and complements.
08 Brazen GXP.  GMPP tune + new IC!, Magnaflow exhaust, DDM backbone and brace, rear Z0K sway bar, Eiback springs, debadged (mostly) and dechromed(mostly), black door handles, Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 on 19" MODA1 wheels, color matching boomerang.

Well, looks like the dealership is playing some kind of a game.

After unfruitful negotiations over several days, I called to ask if they would meet me halfway price wise (my offer was $17k out-the-door and theirs was $17k + tax & doc fees ($281)) and for whatever reason they wouldn't honor their previous offer and now they want $18k + tax & doc fees.  Any of you guys ever dealt with such thing from a dealership ?

So, the search has been halted since the wife isn't keen about other color; triple black might be a possibility, but now we are just disappointed.
