TSB that includes the P0101
« on: February 15, 2011, 05:32:16 PM »
All,

I have had some issues with the P0101 DTC.  In the end, mine may have been caused by a defect in an aftermarket tune that has since been remidied (quite well actually  :yay: )  In all of my research, I never saw this TSB, but stumbled across it today and thought it might help others with that gd code:

That's how it ends, *pe... not sure if there is supposed to be more.

Anybody know what fitting they might be refering to?  I want to check mine out when I get home to see if I can figure it out.  Perhaps mine is starting to fail and only giving issues under certain conditions that no longer exist with the updated programming?  Anybody had a P0299?

If the bypass valve on the turbo assembly is stuck open it will have low boost & throw a po299. But will a broken vacuum nipple on it leave it open or closed?

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
A technician may encounter a vehicle with a low boost/power condition and/or DTC P0299 and or P0101 setting. This may be the result of a cracked or broken fitting at the turbocharger assembly.

Recommendation/Instructions:
It has been determined that the nipple for the turbocharger wastegate actuator may be damaged causing this condition. If this concern is noted please inspect the area on the underside of the turbo compressor housing for the wastegate actuator solenoid valve. The nipple (see CALLOUT #1) may have been damaged causing a loss of boost pressure. It may be necessary to remove the charge air duct for a closer inspection. See eSI "Turbocharger Wastegate Actuator Replacement" for solenoid replacement procedure.

This solenoid is available separate from the turbocharger and should be replaced as a sub assembly. Do not replace the turbocharger assembly.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer".  They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle.  Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely.  If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition.  See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.

#PIP4820: Low Turbocharger Boost Pressure Or Possible DTC P0299 - (Aug 11, 2010)

Subject: Low turbocharger boost pressure or possible DTC P0299

Models: 2008-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, HHR

 2008-2010 Pontiac Solstice
 2008-2010 Saturn SKY
 2008-2009 Daewoo G2X
 2008-2010 Opel GT

Equipped with 2.0L 4 cyl turbocharged engine (RPO LNF)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
Some customers may comment of a low power or low turbo boost condition.  Technicians may find DTC P0299 present.  Technicians may also find the turbo wastegate actuator rod nut missing.  Most parts of the turbocharger are not serviceable.  Until now, if the wastegate actuator rod nut was missing, replacement of the complete turbo assembly would have been required.

Recommendation/Instructions:
If the turbo wastegate actuator rod nut is missing, a kit (WPC 562) can be ordered using the form below.  The kit contains two nuts and a retaining clip.  One nut goes on either side of the wastegate lever/arm.  Replace one or both as needed, depending on which are missing.  Adjust the wastegate actuator per SI document 2246965.  Once the wastegate actuator is properly adjusted, install the locking clip from the kit around both nuts to keep them in place. See the images below.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
