Running 10-inch-wide wheels
« on: January 31, 2011, 10:27:19 PM »
I'm thinking about running 10" wide wheels on my Kappa.  I have four 19x10 C6 wheels; these have a 79-mm offset and a 5x120.65mm PCD.  I found adapters in 1.3-inch and 1.5-inch thickness (I believe 1.25 inches is minimum thickness to clear the studs).  The 1.5-inch thick adapter will put the effective offset to 41 mm.

Would 41-mm offset be enough to clear fender well/lip/liner ?  Tire size will only be 245 or 255.  Overall diameter will be about the same as stock (around 26.7 inches).

So, please share your insights/experiences/hearsay :)

The rims will stick out 39mm compared to the stock rim, the inside of the rim will be 11mm closer to the frame compared to the stock rim, in the end its a pretty good offset for a 10" wide rim. Make sure those adapters are hub centric though.

Why such a small tire on such a large rim? At least put a  275/285 tire on them. Stretching a 245 tire on a 10" rim will look terrible.

+1 to what Shabby said.  I would suggest at LEAST a 275.  I think 295 would look awesome, but I know how expensive that rubber can be!

yep, I agree with shabster and vanguard.   275/35/18 will be the minimum for me on that 10" wheel.

With my new Forgestar F14 wheels (18"x10"), I wrapped them with Nitto 295/35/18.  I have no issues rubbing to the frame.   I have to higher my car since it will not clear the rear fenders.    But once I roll-out the rear fenders, it will clear, then I can slam the rear again :)

So, the wheels will be ok clearance-wise.  That's good to know.  I will try to find both hub- and wheel-centric set.

I don't want to run too wide of a tire; I already have 12-12.5" wide slicks (~335-345) on the Z06.  I consider the LNF doesn't have much torque to run 275-295.  I have more fun sliding a car around instead of maximizing grip.  I also like the look of a stretched tire; my CTS-V runs 255s on 9.5" wide wheels.

Yep.  Two of the wheels already have 245/40/19 Bridgestone RE040.  They are actually meant for drift wheels/tires (read: sacrificial rear tires :) ) for the Z06.

Will do. I have a feeling I'm going into uncharted waters, but hey, I've learned things the hard way before :D

I have no intention to go much past the GMPP tune; I'll install intake and catback exhaust.

The GMPP tune has enough torque to spin the 275's.

That maybe true, but it's more fun sliding around with less available traction.  Plus I like the stretched look.

What offset do those 18x10s have ?
