Once you get to the intercooler there will be a world of turbulence! Reducing to a 2.5 will be fine. The charge air molecules being cooler will also take up less space. Velocity is more efficient at filling the combustion chamber than a bigger volume of slower air. Also the cylinder head is still going to be the restriction even with bigger valves. When you throw boost at it the cylinder head it doesn't grow into a 6 liter nor an 8 cyl. head which can hold larger valves. An 8 cyl. with its larger valves plus boost can benefit from the larger piping.

The limiting factors will be throttle body , intake manifold , fuel injector flow ,Cylinder head flows and larger vavles.-stock intake valve is 1.385 " race valve is 1.4" ,stock exhaust 1.185" race 1.2" .  I think you have to address all these areas to get the benefit of larger pipes and of coarse the correct turbo. I like to think of these areas like a kink in a garden hose . Great discussion and like everyones input . Good job Guys!

We are actually porting the head.......using oversized Supertech valves......using bigger/tubular exhaust manifold.   Also bigger downpipe.

In addition, we might be fabricating a new intake manifold for port injection.

ummmmmm.....what else?  Lots more to come :)

update:

will be using the following:

LE5 throttle body - thank you DDM Dave:)
Werks Custom Intake Manifold
Supertech oversized valves
Ported/polished head

so hopefully the complete 3" charge pipes that will be used will be compatible and will have a positive impact with the rest of the stuff

Most noticeable thing when I went to 3" ic piping was the sound. Less turbo spining sound, it's like it was making less effort to spin.

Almost nothing in power.

Have you tuned for the new intercooler piping? And are you still on the stock k04?

when i sent Vince my logs with the new 3'' pipes, he said there isn't any room for safe improvement, so we left the tune as it was. i wasn't expecting anything, but for a compound turbo set up like yours, it will probably make more sense

Carlos, did you do a dyno comparisson ?

I think there will be a very minimal or probably ZERO effect in power.

arabas, Im not expecting huge gains with the 3" pipes too.   If there is any, it will probably be very minimal.  But I'm still hoping for the best! :)

I just want to get rid of the "bottlenecks" with the airflow in my set-up.     That's why I upgraded to a bigger TB, as well as getting an upgraded intake manifold....and porting/polishing the head w/ bigger valves.

Hopefully the whole set-up will have a positive effect in airflow......and can squeeze out more power :)

we'll see what happens :)
