Here is the update from a call from the dealership this morning:

I was told that the timing chain is stretched and that the dealership is seeing this in the newer engines.

The dealership has ordered the parts and will be finishing as soon as the parts come in.  This will probably take a few days to finish.

I feel better now.

Shouldn't this merit a recall?

No recall - It's not safety related.

Glad to hear it's getting fixed DRM.

Thanks for the well wishes!!!

The dealership called me today and said I should be able to pickup the Solstice tomorrow.

The funny part is that the Service Rep. told me my oil looked dirty and old and that the tech suggest it be replaced...in other words let them change my old.  I then told them that I just changed my oil 2 weeks ago and it did not need to be changed yet, which is the truth.  I always do my own oil changes regularly.  The Service Rep. repeated the same statement and I followed suit, he then said Ok.

I wonder if they drained my oil while working on my car and wanted me to pay for the replacement oil, or if they wanted to make a buck off of me.

hehe, I believe so.  The front cover had to be pulled to change the timing chain.

It looked dirty because it had pieces of the timing cover gasket in it from where they removed it from the block. :slap:

Make sure they put synthetic oil back instead of the cheaper stuff.

Got my Solstice back last night!!!

The dealership took good care of my Solstice and me and they lifted it correctly without body damage.

The dealership asked me if I wanted them to detail my car before I picked it up, I told them to go ahead cause it was really dirty from the last rain.  They did a beautiful job.

My impression:
Driving, the car feels like a different car.  I have been driving this car 90 miles a day, 5 days a week for 4 years and it feels much quicker.  Is it because they disconnected the battery and the computer is relearning?  Maybe?
The engine used to have a shudder when it idled....that's gone.

I am very Happy with the outcome.

The time chain had a lot to do with it.

Glad it's fixed.  Which dealer did you go to?

Thanks.. :)

I went to Jeff Barnes Chevy in Eldersburg, MD.  This dealer also installed my GMPP GXP tune, I installed the hardware...in case I didn't already mention that.  They are about 20 miles away from where I live.

Something I didn't mention is that after I initially dropped the car off at the dealership, I called GM to ask about my warranty and GM opened up a case on the issue.  Every business day the car was in the shop, GM called the dealership and checked on progress and called me back reporting the status, as well as the dealer updating me on the status.  GM called me back today to find out if I was satisfied with the outcome.  Not sure if this was part of the reasons I got excellent service.
