Soft top detailing
« on: April 09, 2011, 06:56:44 AM »
for the past 3 and a half years i have been taking real good care of the soft top coz i would hate to see it destroyed.
that's why i use the car cover, to avoid any dirt on it and of course cats sitting on it.

i wash it with water (no pressure, jst sprinkle it to get wet) whenever i wash the car and i wipe it off with a towel.

is there any other better method to wash it, so as to both clean it and protect it?

To protect the top from the Sun and UV damage I have been applying 303 Fabric protector for the past 5 years at least once a year, usually during the Spring detailing.

Only once have I had to use the cleaning product due to something out of the ordinary getting on the top and it needing 'scrubbed'.

The manufacturer of our tops recommends Raggtopp. The stuff is great. Their are some that are in the 303 camp and others that are in the Raggtopp camp.

I would be in the Raggtopp camp.

I live where we have all 4 seasons and park outside year round under pine trees. I use 303 protectant and have no complaints. It does just what it says it does. Thanks for the reminder, I am due for my annual application also!

It's kindo' like asking what wax is best.  :D

They're both good products. There may well be a product that is just as good that is more readily available in your market.

Check at a local marina and see what they have available.

I purchased the Raggtopp, Reed purchased 303.

His car was at my house so we washed and treated them both on the same day. A few weeks later we took his mom to the airport (two kappas as she had one bag of luggage ). His was beading up like it was just treated, mine was soaked. I am forever sold on the 303.

Sorry we didn't get pictures but it was raining after all.

I actually have used both products - Raggtop is good but a bit more expensive and as Karen said, it does not last quite as long.  In my experience the 303 is less expensive, does not come as an aerosol, so get more product for less cost, and the application lasts longer by comparison.  That is why I now use the 303 exclusively.

But, as Bob said - it is a matter of personal preference.

They must be talking about getting it wet with the hose...

I use 303 and it's held up through snow, sleet, and salt/liquid salt. 303 can be thicker which may be why it works better.

I got caught twice in the ran with my car here in Florida, you never know when it going to come down even if its for a few minutes....
Anyways, I have notice that 303 works well when the hose water hits the top. After the T-top is wet from over spray I lay a towel on top and let the towel absorb the water, I do not rub or move the towel - "Dry as a whistle"...

Got no clue here. I use hose to stake Tomato plants in the garden.

But, I do think a woman with good legs looks really good in wet hose

I just bought the Raggtopp convertible top care kit off Amazon.  I ordered from TCP Global, it was $27.48 for the kit $6.99 for S&H, took about a week.
