High pressure fuel pump
« on: April 19, 2011, 06:41:03 PM »
I feel my car is noisy over the last few days. It is like a bearing is making noise. I believe it is the fuel pump. Do we have any aftermarket choices if I will need to replace it? Has anyone got any links, even for the stock one?
Could the pump make more noise when the fuel is low?
Arabas heared the noise I am talking about, come on tell them! And tell me if you car does it too!

No aftermarket pumps are available, only thing you can do is install an insulator that you can pickup from the dealer. Fuel level makes no difference on the high pressure pump.

Thanks Shabby.
I do not really care about the noise but I am worried that it will stop working and I will be left without car...

Bearing noise does not sound like anything I have ever heard coming from the fuel pump.  The noise we all complain about and the insulator was designed for is a ticking sound that is worse when it is cold outside.  A bearing noise from that part of the engine bay could be from a number of things, especially since the sound will transmit along the metal of the engine and could be coming from somewhere else.  If you (carefully) put a metal rod (I use my breaker bar) against the engine in various spots and the other end against your ear, you will be able to better tell where the noise is coming from.  Won't say its not your fuel pump but I bet with that noise it is something else.

Make a video of the noise, i mean the pump is noisy but maybe yours is out of wack and singing a different tune all together now.

It cannot be heard on a mic, I tried but the engine still makes more noise :gaah:
It must be the fuel pump. The noise is like the one that a bicycle does when you going down a road without moving the pedals or movin them backwards. Is there anything in the pump that could start getting loose?

If that is the noise, I think it is normal.  It is a loud pump.

The noise starts after 1000rpm (the loud one, not the tik...tik...tik...) and as the rpm climbs the noise goes faster (same loudness)

Sure sounds like the fuel pump, do what treeman suggested (I use a long screwdriver) but put it against the center of the firewall above and behind the engine and see if that is where it is coming from.  If it is then it is definately the pump

Mine did that when it was on it's way out then went into a fixed pressure limp mode.  The trims were all whacked at idle huge negative #'s but the car would barely get to 40mph and the trims would go very lean 15+.
