Topic: DIY Steering wheel and air bag removel

As I am in the process of doing some changes to my interior looks I thought I might add a "how to" since I had a fun time removing the air bag and horn assembly. First off let me say that before you attempt this you need to disconnect the power to the air bag system. There are different ways to do this but I chose to simply disconnect the hot wire from the battery. Once that was done I took a common nail that would fit in the holes in the cover over the back of the steering wheel and ground the head flat to use as my tool to release the assembly. You are working in a small hole with no view of you work area so this is a touch type project. You must get the punch on the retaining spring wire and push it inward to release the tension on the assembly, and that wire as you can see in the images is not much bigger than the tool you will be using to release it with. You don't have to do both at the same time but it really helps if you have a second set of hands to hold the assembly out once you do one side so you have both your hands free to release the other side. I found that by gently prying on the assembly as I was trying to release the spring did the trick but if you turn loose of it it will pop back in, hence the second set of hands.
