Had to provide my low profile jack for dealership
« on: April 26, 2011, 01:25:21 PM »
So I went to dealership where I bought my solstice for my "free" inspection
After everything but the suspension checki is done
They inform me that they can't get the car on the
Lift and can't complete the inspection. I asked them if they slow profile
Jack on hand that they could use. They told me
They could order one an have it by next week. Now I've
Taken the day off to get this addressed and am already eating up
Vacation and $. Long story short, I had to go buy a low profile
Jack to letthe dealership use. This is Ultimate Pontiac in Fredericksburg.
Same place that wouldn't work on my ride when it wouldn't start because it
Was "to modified". Well I needed the jack anyway but I would think
That a dealership would have better tools. How do they service a corvette? As a Customer Service expert this dealership ranks very low on satisfaction with me.

Why would you still be going to them?

"Free" inspection!

I wouldn't go back again!

The place that did my inspection didn't need a jack. Hell, he didn't even look at the car other than to check the codes and lights.

Lol..  i had to run to the hardware store to bring a shop some wood 'ramps' to get my car on their alignment rack.  (free alignments to my spec(ish) for life).  They were cool though and we all laughed with 6 foot 2x4s hanging out of passenger seat.

The low profile jack to get on their stands consists of two 4 foot pieces of 2x8 boards.  They can place them against their lift and you can drive onto it.

btw, did you get that broken bolt out of your motorcycle's engine?

Nice bike!

Nothing like a little hijack, right?

Mine, it only has 60K miles on it, but I think it is about broken in! :D

Unfortunately it has been neglected lately!

Been busy with the Sky! :drive:

Yeah, I figured they would have done something, but they said that no one was willing to take a chance with boards.
two shops used boards on my lowered Sky on the same day. worked perfect.

what jack did you buy? are you lowered?

Corvettes are PITA to lift, especially when lowered.  It takes me half an hour just to get mine up in the air without the lift.  Hockey pucks, 2x4s/2x6s and low-profile floor jack are a must.  Even getting it up on the plastic ramps requires 2x6s.  Only extra long, low profile floor jack can be used to lift the back end in one move.  The front ?  Forget it, one side at a time since the bottom of the air deflector sits less than 3" from the ground.

I assume it would be the same thing with a lowered Kappa, maybe a bit easier since the front overhang seems a lot less extreme.

This thread gave me a lesson.  I need to ask if they will need a low-profile jack.
