Freezing the IC
« on: May 05, 2011, 03:12:14 AM »
i saw at fb a picture of a Sol that had an aftermarket IC and the owner used some kind of freezing it.
sorry, but i can not connect the real name and the kappa member name...  :(

this idea has been on my mind for quite a long, as a nice way to achieve sending cooler air into the engine.

pls, step up and tell us more for this mod (or if someone else has done that mod too)

Are you talking about nitrogen or Nos. The both offer icspray bar kits. Sky used to have one on his I believe.

I've heard of using CO2 as well.

Watch out for CO2, if that gets sprayed on IC and it might enter in the intake through the upper part where is the airbox/intake it could blow your engine.

water mist would also be dangerous if gets sucked by the intake, as kelu pointed out...
i wonder if there were a closed circuit line that would cool down the ic by simply touching on it

Check DEI for systems like this Arabas.
Water is not so dangerous in intake as CO2

are you talking about this?

CO2 will not go to your intake, since the air intake is on a seperate chamber.    I spray this in between runs to cool of the IC.......not during the run.

Honestly, I'll use my money on something else instead of this mod.

Use your $400 somewhere else.

It does cool the hot IC after a few runs.....IC is literally frozen.

But if you think that you'll get tons of power......you'll be lucky to get 10whp by this mod.

You might as well get water/meth injection....which is more potent in giving more boost.......more power/tq.

I bought it for car show purposes.....judges gives extra points......

SKY888 thank you for a very good review about these  :agree:

If you have a mesh as grille as mine CO2 could get into intake ;) Antonio's way to spray is safe ;)

kelu, are you talking abou the plastic IC grille/mesh?

I think even if you have that IC grill/mesh...........it will be fine....since this IC spray is attached to the IC.......and not on the mesh.

I don't know how the CO2 will go to the air intake since the IC is far from the air intake......and there's a seperation blocking them from one another, right?

but pls explain,.....I might be missing something here....

If you have a grille like mine described here:
http://www.kappaperformance.com/forum/index.php/topic,4410.0.html

Than the CO2 could reach his way up to intake, there are low chances but if it does, than is very dangerous for engine.

I even know some stories about drag racing when the guys were pretending to purge nitrous but they were purging CO2 towards adversary front of the car to make the engine to perform weak.

I wouldn't spray other thing than nitrous or water on my IC.

saw your custom grill now!

Very nice!!! :)

But Kelu, I personally don't think that if you are running at a drag race.....that the C02 will go to up and go to that grill to the intake.

all the remaining C02 will go through the IC and out.  Because the above portion of the IC is all completely covered....
Even the bumper is covering .....and there's no way that the C02 will go foward then up...then go to the grill.

They'll just go all go thru the IC....especially on drag racing speed.

I can see it happening on a different car....with a different set-up of IC and air intake.   But I don't think it will happen on our cars since our IC is tucked inside....and fully covered.   And the air intake even with your custom grill.....is positioned more forward which will receive the incoming air.
