Gm buying back sol copue because parts are not available
« on: May 06, 2011, 08:42:33 AM »
Has anybody read this on the sol forums
http://www.solsticeforum.com/forum/f59/possible-engine-issue-66587/
This whole thread troubles me, gm is buying back the op's car because they cannot get the part or the parts where. Stoped being made. Op does have warranty as well.
Has anything like this happnd to anybody else or is this the beginning of what is to come for us.
I'm not sure what to think. I didn't think I would be thinking about trading in my kappa this early.
I love my car and I dunno what I would get at this moment :-/

While the two Kappa divisions are gone, and as noted there are supply chain problems from Japan, GM is doing the right thing. For those that read the thread, long block replacements do not come with things such as sensors, wiring, etc., nor would a manufacture expose themselves to the legal issues of created by such ideas as non-original engine swaps or subsidizing them. As for how well Kappas hold up in daily or racing environments, I (and others) have been less then delicate with their cars and they just keep on ticking. But not being able to procure such items as head bolts is amazing. As it is, the car will be bought back, and the owner will be able to get into another car. Soothing the disappointment is another issue.

Yes, I just read the thread and it's somewhat troubling. On the flip-side I'd say anyone who buys a vehicle also has the expectations that it can be fixed.

Buying a car AFTER the company no longer is in business has it's expected problems. When the parts do run out. Then it's time improvise. I wish us All luck in that department.

There is no real surprise in this outcome. The Kappa had issues from the get go, the two divisions are gone, vendors/suppliers went out of business with GM's bankruptcy, and there was an earthquake. The UPSIDE was that the warranty was still intact, GM did try, the car is being bought back, and while the owner was/is disappointed, he is being made whole.

The issues I've had with my GXP, they keep finding parts to replace and when I mension buy back. GM Central blocks it out. I have a Case# and my car has been In and Out of the Dealer sense June of 2010. When I get it back I feel like a test driver and not the Owner.

But, in the case of the OP, parts were NOT available.

I have a broken valve cover, I think dealer broke it when changing Turbo, lose oil slowly and dealer says he will replace it and call when parts are found.  No call, still waiting

Buzzart, no luck

Lilndn, since it's a dealer issue, I will just add a little oil each month until dealer finds one.
