gmpp autocross suspension kit
« on: May 11, 2011, 08:44:16 PM »
Hello I am thinking of installing the GMPP suspension kit coilovers or BC coilovers, My question is can anyone tell me how much the GMPP coilovers lower the car ( GXP manual trans ) how much stiffer did it seem. As for the BC's how did the dampening feel? I know you can adjust the rebound a lot, pretty much no one give you adj. bump even when they say it adjusts both. I have seen the results from shock dynos thru work. anyway thanks for the answers in advance.

The GMPP suspension kit is a waste of money for the GXP. It was/is meant for the 2.4 platform. The springs are simply somewhat shorter than stock. The REAL good money should be spent on the upgrade springs and REAR bar from the GXP Z0K set up.

The BC shocks adjust BOTH rebound AND compression at about a 70/30 relationship.

HTH.

You have the Z0K options which will go lower and stiffer. Also get the swaybars. You'll love it.

What's your primary intended purpose, anesthetics or performance?

I had BCs installed on our GXP primarily because of anesthetics and adjustable coilovers so I could customize the height.  I bought them through Werksracing (but their site list doesn't list which one's they sell even though the BCs website indicates it does make different applications).  They have 32 dampening points and I think my mechanic told he set them around 14 (but while researching coilovers I got the impression that adjustability is used more as a marketing tool).  Whatever, it pretty much feels like it did when it was stock, but again, I'm a cruiser and not an autocrosser.  If I was into autocrossing than I may have went with the KWs because they appear to be geared toward performance.

Adjustable shocks are not just marketing. Crank those BCs up 24 clicks and THEN let us know how THAT feels !!!!!!!!!    If you are cruising vs racing, upgrading the sway bars will offer no benefit.

I love my swaybars on the street. But I drive pretty aggressively on the street.

I am happy with how the car drives for the most part, it feels a little floaty over 80 on some twisty areas. and I would like to have it taughter. I would also like to lower it some but not crazy low. I will drive it on the 1.1 mile course at VIR once in a while, I have access to it through work, nice huh?  Love the car just don't want to go crazy thats why i didn't buy a Z06. so Z0K bars, and the BC's are pretty good to make it feel less floaty, and be able to dail in the ride hight to my liking?

I don't think the floatyness will ever go away. I have everything and it still gets that way on the track.

I find i have this problem even at pretty low speeds where aero isn't involved :( Weight shift is a little unsettling, it's amplified by the turbo kicking in, amplified even more with an aftermarket tune

Kenny,

I just love how you can SPRING back into any conversation.  Even when some TORSION has to be put in to your answers, you never fail to SHOCK me in you ability to DAMPEN anyone's attempt to LOSE TRACTION in a thread.  You have the most amazing REBOUND ability.  Your only problem is you are not ADJUSTABLE in both directions.

You can thank me later.

How's about Norms GXP front splitter?  Even if the primary reason is for looks I have to wonder if it indirectly channels air around the car (instead of under it), thereby helping to cut down on high-speed lift?
